Theater Come see a worldwide smash hit in its pre-Broadway U.S. premiere as Dirty Dancing takes the stage at the Cadillac Theatre through November 8. The Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Porgy and Bess, one of the greatest American operas of all time, and Madame Butterfly, one of the best-known operas of all. From November 21 through the end of the year, the Goodman Theatre will present its beloved rendition of A Christmas Carol for anyone looking to get in a holiday mood. And beginning in January, Xanadu rolls on stage at the Drury Lane Theatre for a limited engagement while Grease and Monty Python’s Spamalot take over the Auditorium Theatre, all courtesy of Broadway in Chicago. October 16 through 29, the Chicago Film Festival takes audiences on a wild journey to discover great cinema, offering more than 100 feature films and 50 shorts and documentaries. Through December 8, the Chicago History Museum takes a look at rock ‘n’ roll history with Chicago @ 40: The Band and Its City. The 79th Chicago Boat, RV & Outdoors Show will be packed with more than 600 boats, 200 recreational vehicles and hundreds of booths January 14 through 18, just before the Chicago Auto Show rolls into town February 13 through 22 with more than 1,000 cars, trucks, SUVs and concept cars at McCormick Place. Arts and Culture Chic Chicago opens September 27 at the Chicago History Museum, offering a rare opportunity to view exquisite gowns and other creations from the Gilded Age through modern times. Through December, the Chicago Cultural Center will present Hidden Treasures: The Lane Tech Murals, featuring a rare opportunity to see 11 outstanding paintings conceived to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lane Tech Prep High School. Beginning October 23, The Museum of Contemporary Art presents a stirring exhibit of the work of Jenny Holzer, whose art offers social and psychological portraits of modern times.
