The Magnificent Mile In early November, North Michigan Avenue’s shopping, dining and entertainment promenade literally lights up to kick off the beginning of the holiday season with The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. Complete with a fireworks spectacular, entertainment and festivities, the Lights Festival is a great way to do some shopping amid the brilliance of more than 1 million sparkling lights. With five high-rise malls, flagship stores, specialty boutiques and ritzy classics like Burberry and Ferragamo, the Mile is the city’s most spirited shopping destination. Carols float into the street from bedecked storefronts and street musicians serenade the bustling crowd with festive tunes outside Water Tower Place as horsedrawn carriages trot past, taking shoppers to their destinations.
