Los Angeles Travel Professionals Guide 2007 - (Page 14) Nightlife:WheretoFind To understand the mind-boggling vitality of LA’s nightlife scene, just imagine a place where club owners and promoters work with budgets the size of a developing nation’s GDP; where local DJs become millionaire celebrities; where entire Web sites are built to help locals keep up with trends; and where celebrity appearances are so well documented you can almost recreate the entire after-dark existence of certain scenesters. Wait. You don’t have to imagine it; you can experience it, right here in LA — a place where the world’s hottest DJs are found, where nightlife’s latest fashions begin and where the celebrity set is always unwinding. In the San Fernando Valley, memorable nightlife options are like celebrity sightings — they’re easy to come by and treasured by all. There are plenty of bars and clubs within easy walking distance of one another and bar-hopping is at its best on Ventura Boulevard. If your clients are staying in the Valley of the Stars, be sure to plan a night on the town and give them a chance to savor this distinct slice of the LA nightlife scene. Another great area for clients who want to leave the wheels behind and explore the club scene on foot is Downtown. Many of the hotels in this increasingly vibrant region have excellent bars and lounges, providing a fun and easy-going environment for a drink with friends or family. The Westside and Hollywood are no less vibrant, and when it comes to nightlife, it’s all about the latest and the greatest. If your clients are heading to this part of LA for some nightlife action, they’ll want to have their plans made well in advance so that they’re not left outside the velvet rope. Working with the hotel concierge is often a great way to ensure that your clients can get into the hottest nightclubs and lounges. If there’s one thing you can always count on in LA’s ever-changing nightlife scene, it’s variety. Meeting the nightlife needs of 4 million locals means providing every kind of after-dark activity imaginable, and in LA there’s not a niche that hasn’t been explored to the complete satisfaction of discriminating dancers, imbibers, sports fans and comedy club purveyors. Dance Clubs Sometimes it seems like there’s a hot new nightclub opening up in LA every week. But that doesn’t mean the good ones don’t stick around. For the successful dance club, it takes unique vision, good DJs, experienced promoters and plenty of good PR. At places like LAX, Mood, the Highlands Hollywood and Cabana Club, success is evident by the sense of accomplishment you’ll feel after getting past the velvet rope. Head to The Mayan for some Salsa, Merengue and other Latin-style dance rhythms just about every night. Level 3 in the Hollywood & Highland Center has taken sensuality to a new level by decorating its stage with beds and inviting its guest to “lounge.” And at Republic Restaurant & Lounge your clients can have a drink among the see-and-be-seen crowd. Cocktails If dancing’s not your thing, but a good drink is right up your alley, LA’s got you covered. One of LA’s top places to see and be seen, the Standard Rooftop Bar provides a quintessential LA experience. Hipsters flock to the Stone Rose Lounge at Sofitel Los 14
