Los Angeles Travel Professionals Guide 2007 - (Page 40) WestsideHighlights LA’s Westside is the perfect mix of high style and glitzy entertainment. Spice up your clients’ itinerary with any of the following attractions. That’s Entertainment • Sony Pictures Studios — “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” are filmed here, and countless movies were shot on the soundstages and set pieces of this legendary studio. Your clients can take a tour, but it’s always a good idea to make the arrangements well in advance. Reservations for regularly scheduled studio tours (Monday–Friday, several times each day) are highly recommended. • CBS Television City — “The Price is Right” has been taped at this studio for decades, and it remains one of the most popular TV show tapings in LA. Soap operas, talk shows and other TV hits are taped here as well. Located next to The Grove and Farmers Market, CBS Television City doesn’t offer tours of the entire studio, but your clients can get free tickets for TV show tapings by showing up early and waiting in line. There’s also a gift shop in the lobby where they can buy CBSthemed souvenirs. Shopper’s Paradise • Farmers Market — There’s so much more than just produce and organic products at this LA institution. After more than four decades of serving LA, they’ve perfected a unique blend of local arts and crafts, gourmet produce and cooking supplies and one-of-a-kind shops full of handmade items. There’s no limit to the amount of time your clients can spend here, but whether they stay for an hour or the entire day, they’ll leave with a whole new definition of shopping in LA. • The Grove — Located next to Farmers Market, The Grove is one of the Westside’s most popular shopping attractions. An outdoor complex with a fully functioning trolley, fountains set to music and stone walkways, it’s anything but an ordinary shopping mall. Mattel, Inc.’s new American Girl Place offers everything to do with dolls — from shops and bookstores to a doll hospital, doll hair salon and a café. There is even a 133-seat theater with live shows. • West Third Street — For one-of-a-kind finds, West Third Street is a must. A boutique sampling includes Polkadots and Moonbeams, specializing in vintage wear from the 1920s to 1960s. The Kristen Longren boutique features draping gowns by its hip namesake designer. Ethel showcases clothes by up-and-coming designers. And Scout is a treasure trove of new and vintage goodies from apparel to wallets and jewelry. • Rodeo Drive — Is there a more famous shopping destination in the world? Just mention the name and your clients will start checking their credit limits and dreaming of a million different indulgences. If they’re not prepared to actually buy anything here, the window shopping is unbeatable. • Beverly Center — Popular among the celebrity set, this shopping center caters to high-class clientele interested in shopping at stores you can’t find back home. Designer clothing, jewelry and fragrance shops cater to clients with no shopper’s remorse and plenty of disposable income. 40
