Parking, however, is at a premium, particularly in the French Quarter. Taxis and public transportation can take you to points not within walking distance. Taxis Rates are $2.50 plus $1.60 per mile (or $0.20 per 1/8 mile) thereafter. There is also a $1 surcharge per trip. During peak visitor times or special events, taxi rates may increase but will be posted. A fixed rate of $28 (two people) is charged from the airport to most areas of New Orleans; for parties of more than two, the fare is $12 per person.
