Parking, however, is at a premium, particularly in the French Quarter. T axis and public transportation can take you to points not within walking distance. Bus Bus routes extend to almost every corner of the city, and the fare is $1.25 (plus 25 cents per transfer). Express buses cost $1.50. Ferry The Canal Street ferry takes pedestrians and automobiles from the foot of Canal Street to Algiers Point several times each day between the hours of 6a and 8:45p. T is $1 per car. Taxis Rates are $2.50 plus $1.60 per mile (or $0.20 per 1/8 mile) thereafter. There is also a $1 surcharge per trip. During peak visitor times or special events, taxi rates may increase but will be posted.
