Seattle Meeting Plan Guide Fall/Winter 2008-2009 - (Page 13) EXPLORE MORE (EXTENDED TWO-DAY STAY) DAY ONE ◆ Just 25 minutes northeast of Seattle is Woodinville Wine Country, home to about 40 wineries. Many are open for tastings on Saturdays, beginning mid-morning. Start at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery for a tour and tasting and then venture out to a few of the smaller wineries. ◆ Stop for lunch at the Redhook Brewery, a popular watering hole that features tours and tasty pub fare in a cheery alehouse environment. ◆ In the afternoon, head south to the town of Bellevue for some of the best shopping in the Northwest. The Bellevue Collection features more than 250 stores, and there are also plenty of restaurants where you can rest your feet and end your day with a satisfying meal. Seattle was founded here, but the original site was built over after the Great Fire of 1889, preserving a fascinating history below. ◆ Next visit the nearby International District, Seattle’s multicultural version of “Chinatown.” Stop for dim sum or a bowl of noodles and then browse Asian bookstores and other colorful shops. ◆ Head back to the downtown core for a visit to the Seattle Public Library, one of the city’s architectural gems, and then spend some time at the Seattle Art Museum. Museum highlights include a captivating Native American collection and notable contemporary pieces. ◆ For dinner, be sure to feast on the city’s acclaimed Northwest cuisine, featuring the catches of the day, farm-fresh vegetables, artisan cheeses, locally made chocolates and fine regional wines. ◆ After dinner, catch a Seattle Symphony performance at Benaroya Hall. Or for something a bit funkier, duck into the Triple Door or Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley for a drink and some smooth sounds.
