Seattle Official Visitors Guide 2008 - (Page 22) AT T R AC T I O N S & TO U R S SEATTLE’S ARTS EXPLOSION Inspired ways to witness the city’s creative outpourings W ith new galleries and exhibitions opening all over the city and a newly remodeled Seattle Art Museum, it’s safe to say Seattle is in the midst of a visual-art explosion. It’s an exciting time for a city that already boasts more arts-related businesses and organizations per capita than any other metropolitan area in the country. Talented, creative people are continually drawn to Seattle, which has a reputation for its welcoming, engaging and accepting arts community. Need proof? Consider this incident: When the Seattle Art Museum unveiled its high-profile, $85 million Olympic Sculpture Park last year, it was met with resounding success. Critics and Seattleites loved the waterfront park and the beautiful, modern sculptures. Soon after, a trio of local artists decided to further gauge the community’s perspective on art by surreptitiously placing tiny replicas of several of the sculptures next to their towering counterparts. Critics, Seattleites and SAM were delighted by the addition of the renegade “baby” sculptures, a response that is emblematic of the city’s attitude toward art. 22 WWW.VISITSEATTLE.ORG http://WWW.VISITSEATTLE.ORG
