2008 Vancouver Official Visitors Guide - (Page 60) Shopping Boutiques, Bookstores & galleries In Vancouver, there’s no better approach to shopping than focusing on the neighbourhoods. You’ll discover a huge variety of bookstores, boutiques and artisan shops full of locally produced goods. With stores for the fashion conscious, the bookworms and the art collectors, Vancouver’s shopping opportunities are too good to miss. If you’re looking for a good place to pick up a book, you’ll not be disappointed in Vancouver. The highly educated and book-loving locals support countless literary shops — from the big and bold to the cozy and intimate. Single-genre shops provide nothing but cookbooks for the aspiring chefs, maps and travel guides for the jet setters and colorful art tomes for the creative class. Robson isn’t the only place in Vancouver to find great fashions, but it’s certainly a good place to start. With just about every fashion label you can imagine, and some you’ve never heard of, even the most discriminating shopper will find something they can’t live without. Other fabulous destinations for high fashion include Yaletown, Kerrisdale and Kitsilano. Got the art bug? You’ll love the First Nations galleries scattered around the city. Granville Island has fantastic places to purchase wooden masks and boxes as well as carvings and tapestries. Gastown and Yaletown are also good areas to find First Nations art. If you’re looking for a little something that your friends back home will never have, check out the many artisan shops in the city. Selling works of art by local and international craftsmen, these places are a pleasure to explore and perfect for window shopping. One of the benefits of having so many diverse neighbourhoods is the dozens of fantastic shopping destinations within them.
