Individual hotel room bookings will be available approximately 18 months prior to the start of the 2010 Winter Games. Continue to check tourismvancouver.com for accommodation information. When hotel bookings become available, Tourism Vancouver will be one of the main sources for hotel search and booking information. Why can’t I book hotel accommodation to attend the 2010 Winter Games yet? A room block is currently in place while accommodation requirements for athletes, officials, media, sponsors and members of the Olympic Family are being determined. During the bid for the 2010 Winter Games, the Metro Vancouver hotel community agreed to set aside a certain number of hotel rooms to meet these accommodation needs. When do tickets for the 2010 Winter Games go on sale? 1.1 million tickets for the Olympic Winter Games will go on sale on October 3, 2008, and 250,000 Paralympic Winter Games tickets will be available in May 2009. The ticket-buying process will be staged in phases. In some cases, lotteries will be held to distribute tickets fairly to Olympic Winter Games events where demand for tickets exceeds supply. This process has been used successfully at previous Olympic Winter Games and is one of the ways in which VANOC ensures fair ticket allocation for all. How do I purchase tickets? During Phase 1, Canadian residents will be able to complete and submit applications for tickets online through vancouver2010.com. Residents who do not have Internet access will be able to request, by phone, a Ticket Request Form to be mailed to them. The Vancouver 2010 Ticketing Call Centre will be open September 15, 2008, to assist Canadians with questions related to purchasing tickets. Ticket box office locations will open closer to Games time. Non-Canadian residents must purchase tickets through the Authorized Ticket Reseller (ATR) for their respective National Olympic Committee (NOC). For example, U.S. citizens will purchase tickets to the 2010 Winter Games though CoSport, the ATR of the U.S. Olympic Committee. Where can travel agents go to find information on Vancouver 2010 packages? Travel agents can either visit vancouver 2010.com to view 2010 Winter Games ticketing packages or visit the Vancouver 2010 official hospitality provider, Jet Set Sports at jetsetsports.com. Can I purchase and repackage tickets for resale? Tickets purchased by individuals or organizations are not authorized for resale. Only Jet Set Sports, CoSport, NOCs and their Authorized Ticket Reseller are authorized to package and resell tickets. As part of Highway 99, the Sea to Sky Highway winds its way through the spectacular Coast Mountains, linking communities from West Vancouver to Whistler. British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation has initiated the Sea to Sky Highway Improvement Project to increase this road’s safety, reliability and capacity. In addition to meeting the area’s future traffic needs, the upgrades will also enhance economic development opportunities in communities along the highway and in the province as a whole. Highway closures and traffic delays are coordinated between construction segments, implemented at set times and publicized well in advance. In “offpeak” periods, construction-related traffic delays are coordinated so that travellers will be delayed a total of no more than 30 minutes between West Vancouver and Squamish, or between Squamish and Whistler. Travellers will be delayed no more than 45 minutes between West Vancouver and Whistler. The Sea to Sky Highway is scheduled for completion in 2009.
