ESL Schools The instructors at each ESL school are professional, friendly and enthusiastic, so that every student feels comfortable, welcome and encouraged to achieve his or her English academic goal. The classes are offered at several different levels to fit the needs of every student. Whether students are beginners or businesspeople, the programs will help them improve their English skills. Most language institutes in Vancouver also offer testing programs and test preparation classes including curriculum dedicated specifically to TOEFL preparation, TOEIC preparation, IELTS preparation, Cambridge ESOL preparation (FCE, CAE, CPE, BEC) and English for Polytechnic preparation (BCIT Program). If your clients already speak English and would like to hone their skills in a particular area, they’ll have the opportunity to enroll in specialized courses specifically designed to address their needs. Known as vacation study programs, they offer students flexible schedules with time set aside for morning studies and practice sessions while the afternoons are full of adventures and exploration. Programs developed specifically for seniors interested in long-stay ESL experiences, referred to as the Vancouver Golden Experience, are becoming more popular. Canadian as a Second Language Institute (CSLI) As a part of its Free Friday Activities, CSLI is offering a series of programs that are designed to help students who come to Canada on a Working Holiday Visa. Topics covered include applying for SIN number, job-searching techniques, resume and cover letter writing, job interview skills and telephone skills. csli.com Visa Requirements If your clients will be in Canada for less than six months, they won’t need to obtain a visa to participate in an ESL program. However, stays of longer than six months and students from some countries must obtain a study permit or a temporary resident visa.
