ANTENNA SYSTEMS 2013
11:20 am
Antenna Radome Effects on High Performance SATCOM Antenna Systems
Dr. Kozakoff, Chief Scientist - USDigiComm Corp.
This presentation is a technical review of the antenna performance required for commercial SATCOM services
as particularly applicable to mobile (maritime, airborne or vehicular) platform systems where dynamic antenna
beam forming or pointing is required. Properly accomplished, these low sidelobe high performance antenna
systems must take the antenna radome into account during the antenna design phase. Specifically, antenna
parameters that will be modified by the presence of a radome include gain, depolarization, far-out sidelobe
performance, antenna noise temperature, boresight error and registration effort (difference between uplink
and downlink boresight error.) Some of these radome effects can be compensated for in the antenna design.

Space-Efficient UWB 2-D and 3-D Antenna Elements
Dr. Anatoliy Boryssenko, Senior Scientist - A&E Partnership
Attend this presentation to learn about several designs of UWB antennas implemented in 2-D printed circuit technology, 3-D volumetric fabrication and a hybrid mode using both 2-D and 3-D fabrication processes. For those
antennas, optimal occupancy of physical space is achieved and measured with respect to supported lambda_
max. Design approaches, CAD modeling and numerical full-wave electromagnetic techniques used to advance
performance of our antenna designs that can be used as single radiators, array elements or reflector feeds will
be discussed.
1:40 pm
Antenna Performance of LTE Enabled Hand-Held Tablets
Derek Campbell, Application Engineer - EM Software & Systems (USA), Inc.
LTE is one of the 4G mobile communication technologies developed at different frequencies. These frequencies
range from 400 to 4,000 MHz with bandwidths up to 20 MHz. LTE utilizes multiple antennas on both ends of the wireless channel i.e. multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) to support high data rate 4G applications. Design challenges
are not limited to miniaturized multi-band integrated antennas, but also include optimization of multiport matching
networks, accounting for specific absorption rate (SAR) and the complex electromagnetic interaction between a
mobile LTE device and the users, affecting antenna patterns and channel capacity. This presentation will show how
these complicated and often conflicting challenges can be overcome.
2:20 pm
MLFMA for Broadband Analysis of Antenna Systems Installed on Electrically
Large Platforms
Jonatan Aronsson, President - CEMWorks, Inc.
Learn about a novel Multi-Level Fast Multipole Algorithm (MLFMA) that is suitable for broadband modeling of geometrically complex antennas that are mounted on electrically large platforms. Unlike the standard MLFMA formulation, the new algorithm can efficiently handle multi-scale features on electrically large models from low to multi-GHz
frequencies. The improved performance is realized by utilizing spherical wave functions to expand the EM field. We
will show that the method is applicable for electromagnetic analysis of composite metal-dielectric 3D models.

Remote Antenna Site Failure Detection by Site Scanning Using AISG Modems
Rick Dumont, Global Marketing Director - NXP Semiconductors
NXP proposes a system called “Base station Site Scanning” or “Site Scan” – a reliable and scalable method to verify
base station antenna site connectivity remotely, making use of intelligent connectors. Site Scan can be performed at
any time under operating conditions without affecting the tower operation. We will explain how available antenna site
technologies like AISG communication can be used to implement a complete Site Scan process, from mapping the
tower equipment and connections, including equipment changes over time, to tracing connections, storing connectivity information and real-time tracing, repair, and verification of any antenna site connection and equipment failure.
