NEW PRODUCTS & SERVICES TEST & MEASUREMENT Aeroflex Launches Complete WCDMA Handset Simulator Aeroflex Limited has announced that the TM500 Test Mobile family now provides full-stack WCDMA handset simulation capability that is scalable from testing and verifying the performance of small cells right up to multi-handset, multi-cell network capacity performance testing. The WCDMA handset simulator shares a common platform with the TM500 LTE and LTE-A simulators, and also supports emulation of real data services. Despite all the activity surrounding LTE and LTE-A, current industry forecasts from both Ericsson and Cisco predict that 3G connections and devices will continue to grow faster than those for 4G until beyond 2017, and that 3G will still be the dominant technology in 2018 in all market regions except North America. This means that there is a continuing high level of investment in growing and improving 3G infrastructure, both to cope with this additional capacity requirement and to offer the higher data rates afforded by multi-carrier technology. The new Aeroflex TM500 WCDMA test solution has been specifically developed to meet these evolving test needs. PCTEL Boosts EXflex LTE Testing Capabilities PCTEL, Inc. has released Blind Scan and LTE Layer 3 features to its SeeGull EXflex scanning receiver. These features further enhance the capability of the fully programmable EXflex scanning receiver, which can test all major wireless technologies and bands worldwide in a single, cost-effective unit. PCTEL's multi-technology Blind Scan enhances the efficiency of network testing operations through full-band search and automatic detection of active channels. This allows field engineers to skip the process of manually acquiring an accurate channel list and get straight to testing. It is suited for in-building testing and benchmarking applications where obtaining channel information for all network operators is often problematic. Blind Scan is now available for all major network technologies, including LTE FDD, TD-LTE, UMTS, GSM, CDMA, EV-DO and TD-SCDMA. SeeGull EXflex's Layer 3 measurements for LTE FDD and TD-LTE provide mobile operators the information required to manage and verify the network settings of their LTE networks using a single highperformance device. This enables mobile operators to improve network operation by reducing handover failures and validating system information about the cell, allowing operators to troubleshoot issues in the radio access network.
