Chargers * New Products Anton/Bauer's Digital Battery and Performance Charger Series Anton/Bauer, a Vitec Group brand, has announced that its new Digital Battery and Performance Charger series are available to the marketplace. The battery technology redefines the power standard for a new generation of cameras and auxiliary equipment. Both the batteries and chargers are available in Gold Mount and V-Mount options. While providing safety, performance and reliability, Anton/ Bauer's Digital Battery is designed specifically to power digital production for the professional broadcast, film and pro-video sectors. It meets the power use profiles of 4K camera set-ups and other digital cameras in use today, as well as various lights, monitors and recorders. The company is now shipping 90 Wh Digital Batteries, which feature balanced, high-quality cells that deliver a long cycle life. The Digital Battery contains a proprietary digital filter that increases run-time and lengthens life cycle, eliminating the negative effects incurred when running digital technology with traditional battery circuitry. The battery utilizes constant calibration to deliver a truly accurate power status and feature a new, easy to read fuel gauge. From an electrical viewpoint, the batteries contain thermal sensors that continually monitor the battery, and if a rise in temperature is detected, a switch is opened to prevent further charge or discharge. At the same time, if any increase in current is detected, the battery switches off. From a physical perspective, their innovative design features a "double skinned" architecture where the cells are individually contained in an impact-resistant and flame-retardant plastic honeycomb, with a 2 mm air gap between them, ensuring no cells touch and air can circulate to keep the pack cool. This entire cell pack is "suspended" within the stylish impact resistant outer case, maintaining a 5 mm air gap around it, providing a "crumple" zone to prevent crushing and accidental penetration of the battery cells by a sharp object. The Performance Charger series utilizes new technology to deliver the fastest possible charging sequence, while exceeding the high-efficiency standards required by today's rigorous shooting schedules. Supporting the Digital Battery series, they feature a new, efficient charging algorithm for multi-chemistry, simultaneous charging. The new algorithm ensures rapid charging of up to four batteries at a time, all while conserving energy, eliminating waste and reducing cost of ownership. The Performance Charger series is nearly 40 percent more efficient than traditional chargers, rendering large power supplies virtually obsolete. www.BatteryPowerOnline.com Kenworth Introduces Advanced Charge Start System Kenworth has announced advanced technology for enhanced protection against battery drainage. The system provides a dedicated engine start module and an inverter for increased performance. Kenworth also released availability of a new inverter/ charger option for easier battery recharging while parked. Also new is an automatic battery monitoring and engine startup for the Kenworth Idle Management System. Kenworth now offers the ultracapacitor-based Engine Start Module (ESM) as a factory-installed option for new Kenworth T680s and T880s. The engine start module provides dedicated power to start the truck. That frees the truck's standard batteries to focus on powering accessory devices such as a laptop, microwave, refrigerator and television electronics in addition to the truck's electronics and lights. The ESM is designed to start an engine in temperatures as low as minus 40°F to a high of 149°F, even when the batteries have low voltage. "The Engine Start Module has proven itself as a very capable solution for situations where starting reliability is critical," said Kevin Baney, chief engineer, Kenworth. "Kenworth is adding this technology so our customers can immediately benefit from this cost-effective option to reduce downtime and maintenance costs caused by low voltage." Kenworth dealers offer ESM as an aftermarket solution, as well. Kenworth's enhanced 1,800-watt inverter provides drivers with the convenience of AC power in the sleeper to efficiently run appliances, entertainment systems and other devices. "Inverters are really a popular option, and aid in driver comfort," said Baney. "It's so much more convenient to run everyday products on AC-power versus DC. The benefit is that drivers can operate more systems and devices with the inverter's better performance in handling high-amp loads." The inverter is mounted on the rear wall in the sleeper storage compartment, giving clear toolbox access and additional outlets through the toolbox door. The new inverter is optional for the Kenworth Idle Management System with the T680 76inch sleeper. The Kenworth Idle Management System is a battery-based auxiliary power unit (APU) system for air conditioning integrated directly into the Kenworth T680's ducting system. It is designed to keep the cab and sleeper comfortable for up to 10 hours. An optional fuel-fired heater provides full engine-off heating capability.
