Editor’s Choice Raritan Releases 802.11 Wi-Fi Solution for Intelligent Power and Environment Monitoring Raritan has introduced an 802.11-standards-based wireless solution to simplify and reduce the cost of deploying intelligent rack PDUs (iPDUs) and an array of environment and asset sensors used in monitoring energy, capacity, assets and the overall health of data centers. The Raritan Wi-Fi solution enables data center racks to be instrumented quickly for DCIM capabilities and solutions, and eliminates the time and cost associated with wired Ethernet connections at each rack. The Wi-Fi solution is well suited for new data centers that want to deploy power monitoring and sensors, as well as for existing data centers that do not have available Ethernet ports and want to augment basic PDUs in a cabinet with intelligent energy monitoring iPDUs and/or environment and asset sensors. Deploying the Raritan Wi-Fi solution in a data center cabinet/ rack involves plugging the Raritan Wi-Fi USB stick into a small magnetic USB dock, which in turn plugs into a USB port of a Raritan PX2 iPDU or EMX Smart Rack controller. Once installed, the solution starts capturing real-time power monitoring data from Raritan iPDUs and information from connected environment and asset sensors, and sends the encrypted data over the air to a third-party wireless access point, which also provides a connection to the wired network. The wireless access point can support up to 6,400 sensors and up to 2,000 metered outlets. To provide a more complete picture of data center operations, the data collected is shared with Raritan DCIM software solutions such as dcTrack and PowerIQ. Data can include current, voltage, power, energy consumption, temperature, humidity and airflow. In addition to ease-of-deployment and flexibility advantages, the Raritan Wi-Fi solution can help customers lower DCIM total cost of ownership by reducing the number of Ethernet ports and associated costs in switching hardware, wiring and IP addresses. resistance and composite material formulations like SolarGuard a sheet molding compound formulation that provides molded-in UV resistance. In comparison testing, SolarGuard outperformed other available SMC formulations by as much as 60 percent in its ability to retain gloss and color after exposure to concentrated UV light. These Stahlin non-metallic enclosures Classic product line units are available in 14 standard enclosure sizes from 3 by 3 inches to 90 by 72 inches. In addition, these enclosures will meet NEMA 1, 3R, 4X, 6P and 12 ratings. New Whole-Microscope Enclosure for Maintaining Cell Culture Conditions Warner Instruments has introduced the Okolab Bold Line Cage Incubator that provides a controlled environment all around the microscope. The enclosure allows cells to proliferate as well as bench top incubators, has an easy turn to open assembly, allows for full access to the microscope and features obscuring panels for darkened environments. This CO2 Microscope Cage Incubator is designed to maintain the required environmental conditions for cell culture around your microscopy workstation, enabling prolonged observations on biological specimens and allowing space for other equipment. Models for any inverted and upright microscope are available. A wide choice of chambers and interchangeable plate adapters allow the use of any cell culture support (petri, glass slides, multiwell plates and others). The enclosure is compatible with manual and digital CO2 / O2 gas controllers. Additionally, users can add an optional Smart Box and you have the ability to control and monitor system performance via any web enabled device. CPI’s eConnect PDUs Integrate Thermal Management with Intelligent Power Solutions Non-Metallic Enclosures Protect Speed Sign Controls from Harsh Environments Speed signs are used to display and log vehicle speeds with LEDs that flash if motorists violate a preset speed. This type of system protects pedestrians in cross walks, managing traffic in neighborhoods, slowing down drivers to protect road crews in work zones and protecting children in school zones. Due to the importance of safety for the community, these controls must be properly protected to ensure long-term trouble-free operations. Many designers of speed sign systems are making the switch to non-metallic enclosures to properly protect controls as they have discovered some definite advantages over other options such as stainless steel. A few of the advantages include lighter weight making installation easier, reduced cost, improved impact Chatsworth Products, Inc. (CPI) has introduced eConnect power distribution units (PDUs) as a power management solution for enterprise data centers. The PDU offers a low profile design that reduces airflow disruptions, an ambient air temperature rating of 149°F (65°C) and comes in more than 160 standard configurations. Available in five models with numerous outlet and plug configurations, eConnect PDUs provide a range of functionality that spans from establishing basic connections to equipment, to remote access with monitoring and switching capabilities on each individual outlet. All eConnect PDUs are also UL Listed in the US and Canada, CE marked for use in the European Union and meet NOM requirements for use in Mexico. Models currently available include the Basic, Monitored, Monitored Pro, Switched and Switched Pro eConnect PDUs. All eConnect PDUs come in numerous voltage and outlet options, while selected eConnect models also include quick and easy setup for remote monitoring and switching, IP consolidation of up to 20 PDUs from a single IP address and easy set-up from an interactive local display. 3 January/February 2013 www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com http://www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com
