Power Ruggedized, Flexible High Power AC/DC PSUs Powerstax plc has released the MC1U series. Offered in 400 W (MC1U-6A), 700 W (MC1U-6B) and 1,000 W (MC1U-6C) versions, supporting a 47 Hz to 440 Hz input frequency range, these power supply units (PSUs) provide design engineers with a plug and play solution that can be adapted to meet exact functional specifications. Measuring 26 by 12.7 by 4 cm, these user-configured PSUs exhibit power conversion efficiencies of up to 91 percent. The available input voltage range is 85 VAC to 264 VAC at 47 Hz to 63 Hz and 90 VAC to 120 VAC at 390 Hz to 440 Hz. UL60950, CSA22.2 No.950 and EN60950 approved, as well as fully conforming to both MIL-STD-461F (for electromagnetic interference) and MIL-STD-810G (for shock and vibration) standards, the products in the MC1U series are targeted at implementation into military commercial-off-the-shelf (MIL-COTS) and other high reliability systems. Over-current, over-voltage and inrush current protection mechanisms are incorporated into these units, as well as thermal shutdown. They also have a 3,000 VAC voltage isolation and an operational temperature range spanning from -55ºC to 70ºC. A conformal coating on their exterior offers added protection against dust and liquid ingress. New Slim Power Adapter from Power Partners Power Partners have released the PEAD70SLF series of single output AC/DC desktop switching power supplies, which provide up to 70 W from an input voltage range of 90 to 264 VAC (47 to 63Hz). The series has standard output voltages of 15, 18, 19 and 24 VDC that require no minimum load for operation. This desktop adapter has a 3.66 by 2.28 by 0.66 inch footprint with C8 AC input receptacle. The PEAD70SLF series features 3,000 VAC input-output isolation, protection circuitry including over-voltage and short-circuit protection, and an average efficiency rating of 87 percent. These efficient power supplies have an MTBF of greater than 100,000 hours at full load. All models are RoHS compliant and meet Efficiency Level V, EN55022 and FCC Class B emissions limits, and are approved to UL, CSA and European UL/EN60950 safety standards. Power Partners' PEAD70SLF units operate between 0°C and 40°C. These external desktop supplies are well suited for wide variety of ITE applications, such as test and measurement, communications, and peripherals where small size is preferred. Multi Format 180 Watt 93 Percent Efficient Power Supply from XP Power XP Power has made additions to its GCS series of single output high efficiency "green" AC-DC power supplies with both ITE and medical safety approvals. The GCS180 range extends the power output capability up to 180 watts. All models in the range have a no load input power of less than 0.5 W and a typical efficiency of 93 percent. The GCS180 series is available in multiple mechanical formats giving the designer several mounting configurations to choose 26 from to suit the end application. Convection cooled formats, providing up to 150 watt output, are in an industry standard 3 by 5 inch open frame package, an optional enclosed cover option is also available. The full 180 W output is available when a forced air flow of seven CFM is provided by the user or by using the optional top or end mounted fan formats. Across the range, five single output models are available covering the popular nominal outputs of +12, +15, +24, +28 or +48 VDC. An additional 12 V / 0.6 A fan output is standard. Designers also have the choice of using an input earth connection or not due to the Class I and Class II input construction used. A remote on/off feature is available across the range by specifying the "R" option. ProTek Devices' TVS Array Provides Circuit Protection in Computing Applications ProTek Devices has introduced a low capacitance transient voltage suppressor (TVS) array designed to protect computing applications from the damaging effects of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical fast transients (EFT). Such computing applications include Ethernet 10/100/1000 base T, FireWire, wireless communications devices and USB interfaces. The TVS array is the PLR3311, which meets IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD), IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) and IEC 61000-4-5 (surge) standards requirements. At higher operating frequencies or faster edge rates, insertion loss and signal integrity are a major circuit protection concern. The PLR3311 is designed to remove these concerns. This device offers low capacitance (5 pF [typical]) and low leakage current. It features 40 watts peak pulse power per line (tp = 8/20 micro amps) and a low clamping voltage. The PLR3311 protects one bidirectional line. The component is provided with a rated 3.3 stand-off voltage. It is RoHS and REACH compliant. The PLR3311 is provided in a molded JEDEC DFN-2-0402 package. It has an approximate weight of just two milligrams. The package features lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed) and a solder reflow temperature (pure-tin - Sn, 100) of 260°C to 270°C. It has a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. The operating and storage temperature for the PLR3311 is -55°C to 150°C. Eaton 5SC UPS Provides Power Protection for Servers, Storage and Network Equipment Eaton has released the Eaton 5SC uninterruptible power system (UPS) in North America, delivering power protection for small business servers, storage and network equipment. The 5SC rounds out the Eaton 5 series product portfolio and complements the 5S, 5P and 5PX UPSs. As an information technology solution, the 5SC features a LCD interface that provides a clear status of key UPS parameters, such as input and output voltage, load and battery level and estimated runtime. It is designed to protect tower servers, network-attached storage (NAS) November/December 2013 www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com http://www.ElectronicsProtectionMagazine.com
