Gather your club, your church group, your school, your neighborhood, your city or hold a public event. Invite people from different religions, races or cultures to meet one another and talk about building bridges. Flip through this magazine for ideas on the dozens of ways people around the world celebrate Peace Day. LEttErs for PEacE Writing letters for peace is a simple, but powerful way to help spread hope for humanity’s first day of peace on September 21, The International Day of Peace. Write letters to your Mayor, Governor and Head of State asking them to declare a Proclamation of Peace for the International Day of Peace. Write a letter to your President or Prime Minister asking that your leader pledge to heed the United Nations call for a Global Ceasefire on Peace Day. Write letters to the editor of your local paper letting your community know about the International Day of Peace. Write to musicians you know and ask them to let their audiences know about Peace Day. Write to any celebrities or other influential people you might know, asking them to use their spot in the limelight to spread the word about the International Day of Peace on September 21. Stamp every letter you send out with: PEACE DAY - SEPTEMBER 21, as a way of spreading awareness about the International Day of Peace. Let your voice for peace be heard. What to do at your EvEnt? • Ring a bell with the United Nations to open your ceremonies. • Sing a peace song. Go to www.InternationalDayofPeace.org to find recordings of Peace Music. • Plant a Peace Pole or have a World Peace Flag Ceremony (www.worldpeace.org.) • Put on a Peace Parade (www.RootsandShoots.org) • Have a group meditation and/or prayer for peace.
