Promote media attention for the Day, to bring more awareness to Peace Day. • Show the Peace One Day video or other peace film (www.PeaceOneDay.org, www.peacefilmfest.org) • Fast for Peace (www.TroopsHomeFast.org) • Hold a Walk for Peace to fundraiser for your favorite cause. • Volunteer for a service project in your community (www.serviceforpeace.org) • Plant a tree for Peace • Have a party, concert, festival, dance, sing – whatever inspires you on this special day! They may be simple to obtain, but Proclamations are a powerful tool to use to help raise awareness about the International Day of Peace and the Global Ceasefire in your community. When a Mayor or Governor issues a Proclamation it presents an opportunity to have an event at which the Proclamation can be presented to the community. It provides a way to get local and regional media interested and involved in the Peace Day campaign. Asking for a Proclamation is easy. Just write a simple letter asking your leader to join other leaders around the world in issuing a Peace Day Proclamation, and enclose a sample Proclamation. Once it’s issued, don’t forget to send a copy to the International Day of Peace NGO Committee (PO Box 340, Roosevelt, NJ 08555-0340, Fax: 503-214-6864. PEacE day PLEdgE All United Nations member countries agreed that September 21, the International Day of Peace, should be observed as a Global Ceasefire and day of nonviolence. This will only happen if we urge governments, communities and individuals to honor this pledge. Ask your favorite group, organization, or religious institution to endorse the International Day of Peace. Post your PEacE day 2008 EvEnts Posting your events is an important step, uniting people worldwide and making it possible to see that people from every community has an activity. It makes it easy for people to find events to participate in, and keeps the community united. There are many event sites, but the International Day of Peace website is our central location for everyone to be listed. (www.internationaldayofpeace.org) ProcLamations of PEacE music for PEacE Peace Proclamations are a powerful tool to help spread awareness about the International Day of Peace and the Global Ceasefire. In past years, Heads of State, Governors and Mayors have declared Proclamations of Peace for the International Day of Peace, urging their citizens to observe and celebrate Peace Day. City Councils and State Legislatures have declared Peace Day Resolutions, too. This year, a major global effort is being made to ask governmental leaders on every level to issue Proclamations and Resolutions. In many cases, past Peace Day Proclamations and Resolutions are obtained by individuals, families, classes of students, and local organizations, simply by asking their leaders to issue them. Musicians and performers around the world are dedicating their performances to Peace. If you are a performer, you can join the Peace Day campaign by dedicating one or more of your performances for peace and pledging to let your audience know about the International Day of Peace. Together we can create a Global Ceasefire and humanity’s first day of peace and nonviolence, in our homes, our communities and between nations. PEacE vigiLs Each year thousands of Peace Vigils take place for the International Day of Peace. These range from small vigils of just a few people to huge gatherings of up to 300,000 people.
