Interdependence Day 2006 in Morocco featured some of the worlds most innovative and forward thinking politicians, activists, intellectuals, religious leaders and artists. www.civworld.org silent Peace Meditations 9-11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows Peaceful Tomorrows is an organization founded by family members of those killed on September 11th who have united to turn our grief into action for peace. By developing and advocating nonviolent options and actions in the pursuit of justice, we hope to break the cycles of violence engendered by war and terrorism. www.peacefultomorrows.org Silent meditations are being organized in many cities in the world. The first one was in Bombarral, Portugal in April 2007, followed by Washington DC, Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador, Santiago in Chile, Pereira in Colombia, Tuxtlas in Mexico and at the United Nations in New York. The main purpose of these events is to meditate, contemplate, pray or simply remain in silence, focusing your mind and awareness on world peace. This unity strengthens each participant’s impact on society while forming a collective power to meet the challenges that call our community to action. www.coalitionforonevoice.org International Young Catholic Students ( IYCS), Friends of the United Nations, Mary Jean Foundation Trust, Pakistan, Harmony Foundation, Bangladesh Bahrat-Pakistan People Forum ( Pakistan Chapter), St. Peter’s High School, Human Development Centre, Convent of Jesus and Mary School and many other organizations shall mark the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2008 at Toba Tek Singh, Pakistan. Through the 39 Peace Days campaign, each day has a special theme on peace especially focused between India and Pakistan. Students plan peace programs in these 39 days. There will be a talent show, a display of student art work, peace drama/skits, peace songs and peace games. Each student shall plant a tree in the school and will be responsible to look after it. The tree will be a continuing reminder of peace. In the evening students, parents, teachers and peace activists shall get together to observe silence, pray, sing and light a candle for world peace, in a Peace Procession. Then families, parents and other participants shall share their food with each other. Since 1996, Danny Garcia has been walking around the world to raise awareness of children’s rights and world peace. Through his walks, Danny Garcia aims to facilitate, promote, and support the needs of children and their families, which includes engaging in humanitarian aid to the victims of disease, famine, poverty, natural disasters, and war. Danny Garcia is embarking on a two-year venture, which will include walks and concerts that will end at the United Nations in New York City on September 21, 2008, the International Day of Peace. www.globalwalk.cc Danny Garcia Global Walk The art of service Photo exhibit association for Global New Thought Documentary Photographer Nancy Konipol exhibits her photographs chronicling her work and relationships with New York City’s social services sector. The artist hopes this show will promote awareness of issues many New Yorkers are facing on a day to day basis and the organizations that are available to help.
