Jeremy gilley hough many have talked about it, Jeremy Gilley is the first to succeed in bringing Peace Day to mainstream entertainment, where millions of people can truly be reached. Beginning with a documentary film about the power of Peace Day to save lives through ceasefires and delivery of aide, his efforts have grown to include massive televised concerts featuring top performers, educational programs for schools and most recently, a movement to bring the sports arena on board. Gilley’s Peace Day story begins with the making of his documentary film, Peace One Day, showcasing his efforts to establish a universal Day of Peace. He circled the globe, speaking to students, peace negotiators, NGOs, government representatives, heads of state, United Nations’ officials, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson, Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amre Moussa, Peace Laureate and former Israeli President Shimon Peres, former Costa Rican President and Peace Laureate Oscar Arias Sanchez, Nelson Mandela. Finally coming before UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, he successfully lobbied the U.N. to declare a single date for the IDP. This was finally achieved in 2001, 20 years after the first UN. Resolution for an International Day of Peace. Until then, the IDP was set on the ever changing opening day of the General MEET The documentary of his efforts received acclaim at film festivals on both sides of the Atlantic and introduced Jeremy to the entertainment industry. He wasted no time in coordinating huge Peace Day events in London, featuring pop superstars, bringing the Peace Day message to millions. With Jude Law, Angelina Jolie, David Beckham and others at his side, he will reach over 100 million people through his Peace One Day concert September 21 at Royal Albert Hall in London. Last year the sellout event was broadcast worldwide and featured Annie Lennox, Yusuf (formerly Cat T Jude Law (l) and Jeremy Gilley filming on location Assembly. By having a single date, Gilley argued, lives could be saved, nations could get on board, and people could mark that day as a time to stop all violence and work together for Peace. “The day works!
