PEacE ParTNErSHIP INTErNaTIoNaL austraLia The campaign for a Ministry for Peace within the Australian Federal Government is slowly becoming recognized by all of the Political Parties i.e. Australian Labor Party, Australian Liberal Party, Australian Democrats, Australian Greens. These groups are all now sympathetic to the cause and provide assistance, attending Forums and speaking for Peace. In 1983 the Department of Foreign Affairs appointed Mr. Richard Butler as the first Ambassador for Disarmament. The Department of Foreign Affairs made an initial grant toward the establishment of Australian peace research, and with the Department of Education it made a commitment to Peace Education. Sydney will host the 4th International Global Summit for Ministries and Departments of Peace Sept. 17-16, 2008 www.ministryforpeace.org The 2007 meeting of the Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace convened in Japan sembly. The bill will establish a National System for the Promotion of Peace that includes three offices: Alternative Resolution of Conflicts, Peace Promotion (projects) and Public Events. congo The Central Africa Conflict Prevention Assn. (CACOPA) now has centers in four cities and more than 120 people attend our meetings. We have held two conferences on the importance of a Ministry of Peace, one in 2006 and one in 2007. Belonging to the Global Alliance and using the examples of the members has given us strength in our country. There are many political Parties and Politicians who would like to work with us but haven’t yet given their endorsement. Israel-Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI), founded in Jerusalem in 1988, is the only joint Palestinian-Israeli public policy think-tank in the world. It is devoted to developing practical solutions for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. south africa costa rica Costa Rica is closest to being the third nation to establish a Ministry for Peace. Our major achievement is that our initiative for a Ministry for Justice and Peace is now a bill that is going through the process of becoming a law. We have lobbied every political party and there is no opposition to our bill so it just has to complete the process to come up for vote with the Legislative As- South Africa is a vibrant and progressive country. We sadly are plagued by violence in some communities and need help desperately to shift this consciousness to a peaceful and secure state.
