Peace Day - September 21, 2008 - 84
By Saphir Lewis We all know Dr. Jane Goodall as the woman who lived with gorillas and brought their cause to the world. She has helped us embrace chimpanzees and respond to their endangered habitats. We’ve seen her on TV and have fallen in love with her primate pals. But she has far more impact than simply in the primate world. When I began working on the International Day of Peace, I kept bumping into Dr. Jane’s giant peace doves. Photos of them were popping up through many of the other peace organizations, and I found that Dr. Jane was involved with nearly everybody who is working for peace. You’ll see her on other pages in this magazine, signing the Declaration of Interdependence at We The World, or speaking at the UN’s Peace Day activities as a Messenger of Peace. 84 Peace Day 2008
