THURSDAYKEYNOTESPEAKERS 11:30 AM – 1:15 PM Alan Darling, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Texscan NT LLC After more than 30 years in the Graphic Arts industry, Alan has turned his sights on digital ad and content preparation in the Cable TV space, where Texscan NT is developing and marketing standards-based solutions for the preparation and distribution of ads in the Video on Demand (VoD) segment of the Cable TV market. Prior to this position, Alan was Executive VP at Vio Inc. for five years where he concentrated his efforts on developing and selling solutions to the magazine and newspaper industry in digitizing the advertising supply chain from media to newsstand. Before rejoining the vendor side of the industry he was COO and CTO at Quality House of Graphics, a New York ad agency prepress shop and commercial printer, and President and COO of Western Laser Graphics, a Los Angeles publication prepress house. Alan is a steering committee member of AdsML, on the Founding Gateway for AAAA’s ebiz for media initiative, the MPA eBusiness Task Force, past Chairman of the DDAP (Digital Distribution of Advertising for Publications) Association, a member of CGATS (Committee for Graphics Arts Technology Standards), a contributor to GRACoL (General Requirements for Applications in Offset Lithography) and a past board member of WPA (Western Publishing Association). Neal Vitale, President & Chief Executive Office Neal Vitale founded 1105 Media, Inc., in conjunction with Nautic Partners and Alta Communications, in April 2006. He is a veteran of the media and marketing industries, with over thirty years experience as an executive, consultant, and journalist. His career includes the acquisition and subsequent public offering and sale of Petersen Publishing, along with senior management roles at Reed Elsevier and Aspen Marketing Group. He is a director at American Business Media (ABM) and the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO), and also serves on the boards of several private companies and not-for-profit organizations. Vitale is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Lusterman, Publisher of String Letter Publishing David founded String Letter Publishing in 1985. Located in San Rafael, California, he employs a staff of 35, and publishes Strings, Teen Strings, and Acoustic Guitar magazines, along with their companion websites and a line of related instructional and reference books. David previously held staff positions at The New York Review of Books, The Nation, [MORE], and democracy, and has contributed to the Village Voice, The Nation, Newsday, and other periodicals. He is an amateur cellist who performs regularly in his community. David chairs the board of the National String Project Consortium, a coalition of 32 university-based String Projects dedicated to increasing the number of children playing stringed instruments, and addressing the critical shortage of string teachers in the US, and serves on the boards of the Guitar and Accessories Marketing Association and the Magazine Publishers of America’s Independent Magazine Advisory Group. He was previously President of the Music Magazine Publishers Association. Ron Wall, Sr. VP of Publications, Canon Communications, LLC Ron began his career with Intertec Publishing in Kansas as a sales representative, and during his 25 years there rose to President of the company. During his tenure the company grew to 100 magazines, 30 trade shows, a book division and over 1700 hundred employees around the world. In 2003, he became Executive Vice President at Ascend Media which he helped form with a private equity firm. Over the next five years, they built the operation into a company with $100 million in revenues in the healthcare, food and gaming industries. In 2007, Ron joined Canon Communications as Senior Vice-President of Publications where he currently manages all media functions for 17 magazines, e-media and data businesses.
