Winston-Salem Business Magazine - January 2008 - (Page 21) Chinese Delegation Visits Winston-Salem Winston-Salem recently hosted 4 distinguished visitors from Shanghai China, the most recent WinstonSalem Sister City. The Sister Cities Shanghai Committee met and hosted the Chinese delegation that came to Winston-Salem in response to a formal invitation by the Sister Cities Board of Directors and Mayor Allen Joines. Members of the delegation were Sun Fuqing – Standing Director Secretary General Shanghai-Hong Kong Council for the promotion and development of Yangtze, Wu Sugui – Director of Academic Cooperation Division of Development Research Center, AiJun Guo – Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Development Research Center, Cao Zhijie – VP of Yangtze River United Economic Development Group Corp. Members of the Sister Cities Shanghai Committee are Dave Van Pelt, Chairman, Dr. Zhang, Michael Shu, Ruben Gonzales and Bob Hardy. The group visited Wake Forest Baptist Hospital where Josh Tan presented a study of BioTech Medical Imaging and then went on to tour the Anesthesiology Lab and the Burn Unit. The Chinese delegation also met with officials from Salem College where there were discussions regarding assistance in student and teacher exchanges between Shanghai and Winston-Salem. The Chinese group met with Mayor Allen Joines and presented him with a coin from the 2008 Olympics. They toured Algean Corp. to learn more about creating bio-fuel from algae and ended their stay with a meeting with Winston-Salem Business Inc. where the delegation was most interested in learning more about doing business in Winston-Salem.
