We offer a school-based experience to improve student achievement and help schools achieve AYP. To accomplish this goal, we address the needs of all participants by • providing a respectful climate for sessions with active participation. • offering opportunities to collaborate and plan activities/lessons. • focusing on “learning for action”—allowing teachers to immediately and confidently put into play instructional strategies that enhance student achievement. Research-Based Professional Development for Voices Reading supports the guidelines of No Child Left Behind, the National Reading Panel, and the National Staff Development Council. The sessions • provide ongoing training, designed to meet the specific needs of each school/district. • help teachers, administrators, support staff, and parents prepare students to meet challenging state and national academic standards. • allow participants to understand and use data to improve classroom strategies and student learning. • target the five pillars as identified by the National Reading Panel. • organize a school/district into a learning community. Voices Reading is a unique comprehensive literacy program that utilizes multicultural children’s literature as the center of instruction.
