brochure - (Page 8) Mljet, (Saplunara) Lunch on Mljet and Saplunara Beach A local tradition, recorded by pilgrims and tourists as early as the 10th century, identifies Mljet, or more specifically Saplunara beach, as the site of the Apostle, St Paul’s shipwreck. There is some debate among historians as to whether the ‘Melita’ referred to in the Bible relates to Mljet or Malta but we like to think this island holds something very special either way. Mljet is well known for its national park on the northern end of the island; however, it is off the beaten track, to the southern side that this excursion will take you. Setting off from Gruz ˇ and the Elafiti, Orietta will make the trip across the tip of the Mljet channel that runs between the island and the Peljesac peninsula to the bay of ˇ ˇ Skolj. Once on land, it is a short climb to the restaurant where you will be welcomed by the Stermasi’s a Please call Croatia Freephone 0800 200 195 for enquiries or to speak to your holiday representative 8 family local to the island. This idyllic spot affords beautiful views of the surrounding islets from a split-level terrace naturally shaded by pine trees — the perfect place to unwind while you enjoy your lunch. After lunch it is a short, 10 minute walk across to the sandy Saplunara beach, a popular stop-off point for yacht cruising in the area. The water, as with most places in Croatia, is crystal clear and offers a refreshing break from this remote sun-trap. ‘Orietta’ will be waiting to pick up passengers for the return journey towards the end of the afternoon.
