e views - January 2009 - (Page 1) A warm welcome A belated Happy New Year to everyone and hopefully it will be a prosperous one during these challenging times for all business sectors. First you may have noticed the title change of the publication along with the front cover design. This was necessary due to a change of ownership for the original title. Our publication has continually developed beyond the original whereby we felt we should have total control but could not use the same title—the content continues as before with thought-provoking management articles relevant to our industry. Many of you participated in the membership telephone survey during November for which I thank you. The intent was to understand what our membership wants from the association moving forward with the intent to build on our strengths, address the weaknesses, and develop what you see as new areas of interest. Our plans for 2009 are being finalised with the aim to deliver shorter ‘regional’ events which should make it easier to cost justify attendance. We will publish a schedule of Webinars which will deliver the valued education content through a more cost-effective channel. Networking is a highly valued offering from Xplor; however, in the present challenging economy people find it difficult to justify time away from the office to maximise these opportunities. We are investigating other ways to facilitate the networking, as well as further development of the Xplor UK Blog. Participation has been a little slow but it is available to supplement the networking activities. Visit http://virtualnetwork.xplor.me.uk/blog to see what is new. As we all venture into 2009 with eyes firmly focused on ways to develop profitable business, you can be assured that Xplor UK & Ireland will listen and try to find ways in which we might be able to help. I feel sure that the trends and concepts for TransPromo applications that were debated at length over the past three years will come to the forefront in 2009 as they offer opportunity for organisations to provide more cost-effective customer communications. The tipping point will be when marketing understands the opportunity—the only way they will is if those involved in business development and operational activities help educate them. We have a change in the Advisory Board for 2009 with the resignation of Neil Merchant edp (ex-American Express) to fully enjoy his retirement—which started in January 2008. I would like to thank Neil for his years of support and active involvement with Xplor UK & Ireland as he finally has the opportunity to benefit from life at his chosen pace—enjoy! Finally I would like to thank everyone who supported Xplor UK & Ireland in 2008 by either sponsoring events, providing their time as a speaker, and those who attended as participants— let’s build on this for 2009. Special thanks to Roberta who has continued to provide exceptional operational support, aided at events by Noel who thought he had retired from the industry.
