Once there, these spectators found themselves at the heart of an area known as England’s Golf Coast – the finest stretch of golfing coastline in the world. There are many fine courses dotted all over England, but the North West is undoubtedly blessed with more than its fair share. England’s Golf Coast stretches from Cumbria and the Lake District in the north down to the Wirral and Chester in the south and offers golfers more than 200 courses to choose from, including no fewer than three Open venues. The area also features six regular Open Qualifying venues and several courses that have staged men’s and women’s Tour events, all easily accessible by road and within easy reach of the rail network and the international airports at Liverpool, Blackpool and Manchester.
