Direct flights take 12 hours. Sun ReSoRtS sibling, The Legend. Opened in 1994, it hosts the prestigious annual Mauritius Open and carves through indigenous forest alongside a beautiful beach. Its signature par-3 17th hole calls for golfers to fly the ball over a lagoon onto the green. Green fees on both courses are free to guests of Hotel Constance’s two Mauritian hotels, Belle Mare Plage The Resort and Le Prince Maurice. The Legend is reserved for guests of the hotels, while The Links is open to visiting golfers. – its undulating fairways cut through sugar cane fields. There is also a 9-hole, par-3 practice course, encircled by the back nine of the main course. Getting around: Car rental is widely available and, like Britain, driving is on the left. Mauritius is less than four times the size of the Isle of Man. Climate: Mauritius has two seasons. The warmest and wettest months are December to March, when temperatures can reach 31°C. A light sweater or jacket may be needed in the evenings from June to September. Adjacent to Le Telfair Golf and Spa Resort and the Heritage Golf & Spa Resort, it is a 7,116-yard, par 72 design by South African golf architect Peter Matkovitch. Set in two loops of nine – one giving views over a lagoon and the other with vistas towards the hills of the Black River Gorge The 18-hole Tamarina Golf Estate and Beach Club course, by Rodney Wright, is another new facility. The 7,436-yard Tamarina runs alongside and across the Rempart River, giving golfers scenic views of craggy Mount Rempart and occasional ocean glimpses. Guests at Beachcomber Hotels’ Paradis Hotel & Golf Club and adjacent Dinarobin Hotel Golf & Spa can play at Tamarina and the Golf du Chateau course as well as at the on-site, 18-hole Paradis course. This striking, David Duttondesigned course winds along a narrow peninsula between a natural lagoon and the ocean below the soaring Le Morne mountain on the southwestern tip of Mauritius. Five holes of the 6,451yard, par 72 course hug the coastline. There are 9-hole courses at the Sofitel Imperial in Wolmar, and at Beachcomber’s Trou aux Biches and the Maritim, on the north-west coast. Central Visitors can play the private Gymkhana Golf Club, the original course in Mauritius built by the British Army in the early 1900s, near the inland town of Vacoas.
