The 3rd hole is an exquisite little par-3 of 182 yards usually played a little down wind and aimed at a semi-island green surrounded by water. Arriving on the 6th hole you will encounter the longest golf hole on the entire island of Mauritius – a monstrous 661-yard par-5 which winds its way parallel to one of the prettiest beaches on the whole of the island. A par on this hole really does feel like a birdie as the prevailing right-to-left wind will test the golfer’s skill to its limits. The closing hole on the front nine is again a testing par-5, measuring 562 yards, which usually plays into the wind off the tee. Two strategically-placed lakes on the righthand side of the fairway and an elevated green surrounded by black volcanic rock make this hole a real test when finishing the front nine. The back nine opens up a little gentler, with the dogleg 10th a par-4 measuring 409 yards. A mangrove swamp comes into play on the second shot to a tight, sloping green. The next three holes – 11, 12 and 13 – are undoubtedly the Langer has created a masterpiece that snakes its way around the whole island and uses all the natural tidal pools and rocky outcrops that come in to play on many spectacular holes. The three closing holes, all of which are extraordinary par-4s in their own right, are all risk/reward holes and depending which tee you are playing from, will vary the carry on tee shots from 180 yards all the way up to 230 yards across the mangrove swamps. The final hole – aptly named ‘’Carry me home’’ is a testing par 4 measuring 418 yards and provides the last chapter of this intriguing test of course management skills. The tee shot must carry 200+yards across a rocky tidal inlet, with the second shot from the fairway again carrying an expanse of mangroves to an undulating three tier green. It would be trite to say that there are 18 signature holes on this golf course, but Langer has definitely created an exotic golfing masterpiece that will have you reflecting on your round long after the last putt has been sunk.
