Reviewers' Information Pack - (Page 10) Reviewers’ Information Pack Supporting the Peer Review Process 4. PEER REVIEW SYSTEM 4.2. Tools to Help (continued) ScienceDirect is one of the world’s leading providers of Scientific, Technical and Medical information. Designed to serve the needs of the researcher, ScienceDirect offers immediate access to the abstracts, journal and reference work articles needed for research. Currently, over 7.5 million articles are now available on ScienceDirect. The recent launch of online book series added another layer of original, peer-reviewed full text content to ScienceDirect. Reference Linking to Scopus and ScienceDirect via EES Reference Linking means that by clicking on the hyperlinks, listed alongside the referenced articles, reviewers are brought to the abstracts of those articles. Furthermore, depending on the reviewer’s or their institute’s subscription entitlements, reviewers can also link directly, via CrossRef’s DOI service, through to the articles referenced in other publishers’ journals. This functionality and the facilitating tools are integrated, seamless and accessible through Elsevier’s submission and peer review editorial system (EES), thus reducing the amount of time you spend searching and checking references and citations. Reviewers can use the functionality to check the authors’ claims, to assess the manuscript’s quality, to identify missing references etc. Easy access to references will improve the quality of the reviewer assessment, and therefore help improve article quality. As a reviewer you are entitled to access references, abstracts and full-text articles in Scopus and ScienceDirect. Your 30-day access can be activated in your ‘Pending Assignments’ page in EES. Abstracts and full-text can be reached through the hyperlinked references, accessible by following the ‘View Linked References’ link in the action menu of the manuscript, or via the Scopus search bar in EES. Reference Linking has been introduced to over a hundred journals and will continue to be rolled out in the coming months.
