Live Production: Shows That Never End cont'd...

Organisers of the 28th SEA Games, staged in June in Singapore, Southeast Asian
Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC), partnered with EVS to deliver an end-to-end
multimedia production service for the multisport event

including three vehicles from ORF
and three from VideoHouse - were
equipped with Lawo m² 66 or mc²56
digital mixing consoles. In addition,
the VideoHouse trucks were equipped
with Lawo V__pro8 video processing
systems for audio embedding, deembedding and format conversion. A
VSM system from L-S-B was used for
managing and controlling the whole
installation.
Also in Vienna, Blackmagic Design
provided all signal distribution at the
event areas, delivered via an SDI based
live production workflow featuring six
Blackmagic Design Smart Videohub
routers.
As well as the main staging hall,
where 60 countries competed for the
chance to perform in a live two hour
televised spectacular, the ESC also had
dedicated halls for media, backstage
and catering, the judging panel,
VIPs and the official ESC delegation.
Each was equipped with a multitude
of displays and screens to keep
attendees up to date, and a Smart
Videohub 12x12 or 20x20 was assigned
to manage video signals for each
individual zone. Three video channels
produced by the production hub were
delivered to screens; the main hall
feed for rehearsals, semi-finals and the
grand finale, an information channel
for competitors and an internal
communications
channel.

installed throughout the arena's SDI
infrastructure.
Back in the political arena, Riedel
Communications supplied a robust
communications solution for the
ITV Leaders pre-election debate,
held at MediaCityUK. During the
live broadcast event, broadcast and
production facility provider dock10
used the Riedel Artist digital matrix

intercom system and MediorNet realtime media network to enable flexible,
reliable transport of video, data, and
communications signals to the three
main broadcasters - Sky, BBC, and ITV
- as well as to the Media Hub Centre
hosting more than 300 other members
of the global press.

network came into its own during this
event, offering valuable flexibility,
reliability, and stability throughout
an exciting, action-packed day that
was full of surprises," said John
O'Shaughnessy, Head of Technology
Operations at dock10. "With such a
dependable solution underpinning
signal
transport,

dock10
technology team could deliver all that
was asked of it on a very demanding
day."
Further south, RT UK, the latest
channel from Moscow-based global
multilingual news network Russia
Today, has installed a Calrec Summa
digital audio console in its London
bureau to manage audio signals for its
live news operation.
"With the number and complexity
of news programmes we produce
each week, and the number of audio
sources required to do it, we needed
a console that would keep pace
with our dynamic operation, with
comprehensive channel processing
and bus facilities that could cater to
every clean-feed scenario. The Summa
console meets our every requirement,"
said Eric Wisby, Sound Supervisor for
RT UK, who worked with fellow Sound
Supervisor Tony Cosaitis to manage
the console's configuration and
installation on behalf of RT UK.
On the sporting front, organisers of

included a cloud based second-screen
delivery platform for multimedia
content distributed to mobile devices.
The live multimedia production
system provided by EVS enabled
real-time ingest, multicam editing
and metadata enrichment of live
content, allowing production of
hundreds of hours of sports coverage
for a worldwide audience. In addition
to ingest, clipping and storage
capabilities provided by the XT3 server
and IPDirector asset management,
EVS' cloud based service C-Cast
solution connected with the on-site
production infrastructure, enabling
delivery of the live, near-live content
to mobile devices. Through the app,
viewers will be able to select and view
multiple live games as well as ondemand replays and highlights with
multicam experience.
"When planning an event like the
SEA Games, preparation time always
seems short and the speed required
by facilities always high," said
Thomas Lim, Head of the Information
Operations Centre, SINGSOC. "The
decision to engage EVS technology
into our broadcast facilities helped us
alleviate those issues and concentrate
on new innovations. When we planned
on building a multimedia platform for
the games, we knew EVS' involvement
would be vital."

provide fans at Wembley

giant The Shopping
Channel

Broadcast for the first time. During
the FA Cup Final between Arsenal
and Aston Villa in May, content was
distributed via EVS' FanCast solution
to dedicated media points around the
venue, enabling fans to get access to
exclusive replays and highlights.
