Is A Must See

the Content & Communications World+Satcon conference and exhibition...

I

go to a lot of trade shows every year
to keep up on what's happening
in the world of technology, but none
is as easy to navigate (and valuable
to me personally) as the Content &
Communications World conference
in New York, this year to be held on
November 11-12, 2015, at the Javits
Convention Center.
For me, it remains one of the bestattended and most educationally
viable regional trade shows in the
broadcast and satellite industries.
That's
because
the
show
is
relatively small (although last year's
CCW+SATCON show attracted more
than 11,000 attendees, including
vendor staff) and the "quality" of the
attendee is exactly what vendors are
looking for (a purchasing decision
maker). There is also a post-production
component that works for editors and
others involved with the post process.
The show is intentionally divided
between the content creation (CCW)
and satellite delivery (SATCON)
sides. This makes for a good mix
of attendees, many interested in
both disciplines. Each industry is
represented by appropriate keynote
speakers (such as Steve Mosko,
President of Sony Pictures Television
and Kay Sears, President of Intelsat
General Corporation) as well as a
variety of breakout sessions focusing
on such important issues as 4K (UHD)
image capture, IP delivery, satellite
compression technology as well as
the latest image acquisition and postproduction systems.
On the exhibit show floor, more
than 220 equipment manufacturers
and service providers will display
their latest solutions, from Avid to
Blackmagic, ChyronHego to EVS,
JVC, Panasonic and Sony, to name a
few. Many audio companies will also
be represented, like Lawo, Riedel
Communications,
Shure,
Sound
Devices, The Telos Alliance, and

Wohler Technologies. The SATCON
portion will spotlight companies like
Accelerated Media Technologies, ASC
Signal Corp., Eutelsat, Globecast,
Network Innovations, Newtec, and
Xytech Systems.
At the CCW+SATCON show, now
owned and operated by the National
Association of Broadcasters (NAB),
Future Media Concepts (FMC) and
NAB will once again present the NY
Post Production Conference during
CCW. These training workshops
are intended for editors, producers,
directors, motion graphics designers,
new
media,
commercials,
and
independent filmmakers; and are
typically well-attended, hands-on
training sessions.
Among the topics of discussion for
the workshops include Digital Asset
Management, MPEG AVC and HEVC
compression, Ultra High Definition,

video streaming, storage, cloud
computing and processing, multiscreen delivery, drones, virtual reality
and more. SATCON attendees will
be interested in "Fundamentals of
Satellite Communications Systems",
security and much more.
The SATCON sessions will feature
discussions
on
satellite-enabled
communications, terrestrial wireless,
mobile and hybrid technologies for
global
communications,
content
delivery and distribution. Exhibiting
companies will showcase everything
from satellite amplifiers, antennas,
down/up converters, modems, network
management hardware and software,
RF over microwave, switches and test
equipment to ENG/SNG, engineering
services, IP Network Solutions, military
satcom applications, mobile data, and
dedicated satellite services.

is a must-attend event

like CCW+SATCON is that you get up
close and personal with company
representatives that might not be so
easy to access at larger shows (like the
NAB's annual convention in April in Las
Vegas). Not all of the top executives
attend, but the conversation is much
more comprehensive and worthwhile.
The show comes at a time when many
of the same companies have exhibited
their wares at the IBC Show in
Amsterdam in September and months
before the 2016 NAB show in Las
Vegas in April.
If you are in the NYC area, or just
want to see the latest technology, hear
about the future of television in the
US or just want to catch up with some
friends in the business, in a casual
setting, this year's CCW+SATCON show
should not be missed. I'll be there.
