We love Kindle because it displays text well, and since the launch of Nxtbook Liberty, we’ve gotten very good at doing the same. the result is akin to reading a newspaper from the 1970s. We love Kindle because it displays text well, and since the launch of Nxtbook Liberty, we’ve gotten very good at doing the same. Kindle isn’t perfect (although it has many attractive features including the seamless Whispernet and a small size), but its creation suggests a bright future for Nxtbook Liberty. Nxtbook Liberty is a text-based version of our customers’ content. It was spawned by our UK clients’ desire to provide accessible versions for the visually impaired. Nxtbook Liberty strips all of the text from the publication. Then the text is reformatted by human beings (a critical step neglected by our competitors which, we’ve learned, leads to vastly superior results) and displayed perfectly on both screen reading devices, mobile phones and, yes, the Amazon Kindle. In the coming months, you’ll see more and more mobile devices arriving on the market. Every Kindle, iPhone, Razr and Krazr represents a slice of the audience and a new challenge to find a way to reach the potential audience that could be lost if our content can’t be displayed on their devices. Nxtbook Liberty offers a flexible platform today’s devices— like Kindle, iPhone, Razr and Krazr—as well as tomorrow’s. You know, it’s difficult to imagine what digital magazine technology will look like in the future. Some days our development team feels bogged down in a technological swamp; it feels like we’re on the quest to perfect a tiny feature only noticed by a fraction of the audience. Thankfully, there are days like today when we can create products like Nxtbook Liberty that can interact with Kindle. I’m talking about the first commercial e-ink device that appears to have serious potential (or not, depending on with whom you’re speaking). Today we can interact with the Amazon Kindle. There were many ways Nxtbook Media could’ve served content to the Kindle. For example, we could’ve served up images of all pages of the magazine.
