The job suited her infectious personality to a ‘T’ because she enjoyed meeting with clients, interacting with listeners and coming up with the right ideas to get the right results. She did everything she could to wriggle her way onto that Hallam FM S&P team. Rachel Middleton S&P Manager 106.1 Rock Radio She used a tactical approach: She bothered them every day until they buckled and gave her the job as a promotions co-ordinator. This was the start of her colourful journey. First, she was promoted to S&P executive at Hallam FM before then being approached by their sister station Key 103 in Manchester. Then after six years working for the Emap group she wanted a new challenge. Rachel moved to an up-andcoming radio station 96.2 The Revolution as the spon- Rock Radio’s Rachel Middleton and GMG’s Andy Carter sorship and promotions manager. She worked with Mike Joyce of The Smiths and Mani from The Stone Roses/Primal Scream. Her experience in a nutshell: Inspirational. Rachel stayed there for four years because she loved music and her co-workers but after a while she needed a new challenge. That’s she transitioned to 106.1 Rock Radio. Now, after 10 years in radio nothing surprises her. She has seen presenters having punch ups and met a few stalkers; she’s witnessed two dogs getting married and she’s heard the first hand accounts of the sexy drug and rock ‘n’ roll secrets that are too scandalous for the tabloids to print. Her life is crazy. One week she’s hanging out backstage with the White Stripes and next week she’s with the Stereophonics.
