News Press heavyweights line up for regional conference Journalism Skills Conference respondent. He held various other positions within the organisation before securing the editor’s chair. Paul Newman is the first head of communications at Media City UK, Peel Holdings’ £3bn 200-acre development at Salford Quays. Paul was previously head of communications at the Liverpool Culture Company and before this he was director of communications at the Football Association. He has also worked for BBC Manchester, Piccadilly Radio, ITV, Sky News and TV-am. Paul began his career as Knutsford Guardian. Simon Reynolds is editorial director of the Lancashire Evening Post. He has worked on the Cheshire Observer, the Wrexham Evening Leader, the Carlisle Evening News, The Sun, the Daily Mail, the Daily Post in Liverpool and the Edinburgh Evening News. The symposium will focus on issues relating to the training and education of journalists and has been organised by the National Council for the Training of Journalists. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss these issues with a panel of editors from all sectors of the media. The results of the recent survey about converging journalism skills will be presented and delegates will receive a copy of the research report. Delegates attending the conference will also get the chance to take a tour of the MEN’s convergent newsroom — an apt visit considering much of the debate is set to revolve around converging journalism skills.
