St Patrick’s Credit Union teams up with SPORTSCO SportSco leads the way on youth activity programmes DiD yOu knOW that 300,000 irish children are either overweight or obese? Despite state of the art health and fitness facilities and top class education, irish children are among the most unfit in the european union and the numbers are rising rapidly every year. a number of factors are to blame for these facts including convenience foods, lack of exercise, our television culture and a possible lack of understanding in some families. a new report published in the journal pLoS Medicine, offers new hope for parents concerned about the growing obesity epidemic. it suggests that making even small increases to your daily exercise routine, such as walking your child to school every day instead of taking the car, could have dramatic long term results. One finding is that just 15 minutes of exercise a day lowers a child’s changes of obesity by almost 50%! SpOrtSCO has taken these findings very seriously and has put a number of youth activity programmes in place over the next few months. a youth development officer will be appointed from the SpOrtSCO fitness team and will coordinate all activities. the activities available at the moment include; • easter and Summer multi-sports camps • teen gym classes • Junior kung-Fu • Junior tennis coaching and camps • Junior swimming lessons and coaching with eSB Swimming Club. n For more information on any of the above activities, please contact SPORTSCO on 6687022 ext: 0 or website www.sportsco.ie SpOrtSCO and St. patrick’s Credit union are delighted to announce an easier way for eSB staff to pay for their annual SpOrtSCO membership fees. eSB staff that are also credit union members can now include their SpOrtSCO annual fee of €395 in their Budget account payment plan. Credit union members who do not have a Budget account can open one at any time of the year. eSB Staff who are not members of the credit union can apply for membership and open a Budget account at the same time and enjoy the benefits as outlined below. - takes away the stress of managing your regular household bills. - Spreads the cost evenly over 12 months. - every household bill can be catered for. n For further details please see the credit union website www.stpatrickscu.ie or contact the credit union by phone on 016325100 or email info@stpatrickscu.ie http://www.esb.ie/em http://www.stpatrickscu.ie http://www.sportsco.ie
