INNOVATION 13 December 2013/January 2014 * www.esb.ie/em Innovation Crisis Management simulation exercise THE CRISIS MANAGEMENT exercise for the Innovation Directorate took place on Wednesday 25th September. For the past seven years, the Crisis Management Team (CMT) consisted of representatives from ESB International, but this has been extended to the wider Innovation Directorate to incorporate staff from each business area. Twenty staff members participated in the simulation exercise, which was organised by Daire Venables, CMT Co-ordinator. Risk Management International (RMI) facilitated preparation workshops for the team in advance of the exercise and assisted the team during the simulation. The principle aim of the exercise was to practise, in a real-life setting, the Crisis Management Action Plan that has been developed by the Innovation Directorate and to identify any gaps in the plans and procedures. The simulation exercise focused on a potentially reallife scenario. Once the simulation had begun, Ollie Brogan, Managing Director RMI has since reviewed the simulation exercise and has provided ESB Innovation with an action plan with areas for improvement. The main recommendations include: * Improvements to Stakeholder Management * Further developments of the Crisis Communications Plan * Enhancement of the Crisis Scenario Checklists * Improved Monitoring of Social Media Channels. ESB International, addressed the team to discuss the next steps. Team members dealt and communicated with staff on the ground in the particular country, next of kin, staff in Ireland, media, government bodies and a number of other stakeholders. During the exercise, obstacles such as loss of communications had to be dealt with. Live media reports on TV, print and online were provided by RMI on the day. Ollie Brogan said: "This was an excellent learning exercise for all Crisis Management Simulation Exercise led by Ollie Brogan, Managing Director, ESB International and the team from across the Innovation Directorate, responsible for Crisis Management in Innovation. parties involved. The Crisis Management Team has been in place in ESB International for the last seven years and the addition of the new members has brought extra skills and experience to the team. It is important to run these simulation exercises to ensure that we are as prepared as possible in the event of an actual crisis and continue to learn from our experience". Over the years, Crisis Management Exercises have provided the team with valuable learning experiences making it clear that there is no substitute for practice. n 18th annual Asian Gaelic Games proudly sponsored by ESB International THE 18TH ANNUAL Asian GAA Games took place recently at the Putrajaya Polo Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
