Zhoosh Magazine - February 2009 - (Page 7) Kez LCP Co-ordinator ‘The Asylum and Immigration group is changing too, moving away from a campaign group there will be more support activities like attending interviews and meetings with asylum seekers and offering support to those who have refugee I met up with Kez just 4 weeks into her new role as status granted.’ LCP Coordinator, and asked her what attracted her So what’s the main challenge for the LCP in 2009? to the role. Kez is no stranger to the Lesbian and Gay Centre, as a member of the centre’s committee 18 years ago she’s on a mission to revitalise the centre as a busy hub for new groups and volunteers. Kez: ‘The variety, I like to be involved in a range of things and in this role I can be meeting the asylum group one evening, running the OWLs group the next day’ Kez is already making some changes at the LCP, ‘The OWLs group (Older wiser lesbians) ran as a drop in group, I’ve set up some activities including art classes and guitar lessons’ Kez jokes this is because her last band split up and no-one else will have her, but I’ve heard on the lesbian grapevine that she’s more talented than she lets on. Maybe we can start a campaign to get her performing at women’s space next year Kez ‘Getting ourselves heard and raising the LCP’s profile there will be an LCP profile on facebook I’ve just got go ahead for that. Kez’s plan is to recruit more volunteers for the LCP who can help with things like PR and promotion and helping out with groups and administration. Kez ‘We have a small group of volunteers but I’ll be redesigning the volunteer packages and processes- there will be development opportunities and training for volunteers. Charities couldn’t survive without volunteers.’ and Kez’s favourite colour? it’s black, she is a goth after all. mail@manchesterlcp.org.uk l 0161 273 7128 l www.manchesterlcp.org.uk Do you run a group or event for lesbian or bisexual women? send the LCP details of your group to be included in the directory Contact the LCP Page 7 http://www.manchesterlcp.org.uk
