The glass coating is applied to all four sides, excluding the terminations to increase the voltages that can be applied before arcing occurs. The integral coating, a matte tin layer over the nickel FlexiCap base termination, minimises the risk of flashover and avoids the need for the customer to apply conformal coating after soldering, says the company. Aimed at power supplies, lighting ballasts, inverters or DC link, and general high voltage circuits, the X7R dielectric ProtectiCap MLCCs are in capacitance ranges from 100pF to 33nF and package sizes from 1206 to 2220. The 2220 size is suitable for automation and is provided in a standard tape and reel. Voltages are 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and 5kV. Using the coating, which has been tested to AECQ-200 specifications, the company is able to offer a 2kV MLCC in a 1206 package with capacitance range of 100pF to 3.3nF; a 2kV MLCC in a 2220 package with capacitance range of 220pF to 33nF; a 3kV device in an 1880 package with 100pF to 3.3nF capacitance range, and a 5kV MLCC in a 2220 package with 220pF to 4.7nF capacitance range. Temperature range is -55 to 125oC, and capacitance coefficient is typically at ±15%. Insulation resistance is 100GΩ or 1000s, whichever is the least. Syfer A F nalog Devices has introduced the ADP2164, a 6.5V, 4A output DC/DC regulator that offers input voltages of 2.7 to 6.5V and an output of 0.6V. The regulator has low on-resistance switching FETs and is housed in a 4x4mm QFN 16-lead package. It is suitable for multi-rail, PoL applications ranging from communication infrastructure to industrial devices. The regulator includes a synchronisation input, selectable phase-shift to minimise input ripple current, precision-enable input, and voltage tracking input. The switching frequency can be programmed from 500kHz to 1.4MHz or synchronised to an external clock to eliminate beat frequencies between regulators. The regulator is based on a current-mode, fixed-frequency PWM architecture that is claimed to provide good stability and transient response. It is pin-compatible with the ADP2118 5V, 3A synchronous regulator and operates between -40 and +125°C. The reference design is based on the LNK419EG, a member of the company’s LinkSwitch-PH family of ICs. The ICs combine a controller and 725V MOSFET to reduce the complexity and component count of the design, making it suitable for LED-based fluorescent-tube replacements. The ICs perform both power factor correction and constant-current functions in an advanced singlestage topology, eliminating the need for large, temperature-sensitive electrolytic bulk capacitors, according to the company. The LED driver reference design can support installations operating from the US residential supply of 90 to 120V AC and also a nominal voltage of 277V AC services of industrial applications. www.epn-online.com/search?search keyword=47349 14 Power integrAtionS www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47292 April 2012 – epn issue n° 04 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47267 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search%20keyword=47349 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47292
