CABLes & COnneCTORs 100Ω Orthogonal Connector supports data rate of up to 25Gbit/s Hermetic Connectors Pair both are supplied to military specifications RoHS-Compliant Connectors have built-in smart card detection switch M olex has launched the Impact 100Ω orthogonal direct connector to connect PCBs using the same daughtercard. The connector supports 25Gbit/s data rates and eliminates airflow, cross-talk, and capacitance constraints in high-speed channels that can be introduced through current backplane and midplane laminates, says the company. The combination of the direct right-angle male connector and daughtercard simplifies component management and enhances performance in data, telecommunications, medical, and networking devices, says the company. The connector has two compliant-pin attach options and 18 to 72 differential pairs/ orthogonal node. There are three- to six-pair configurations to create options for the PCB and mating interface. A mating interface is claimed to offer a low mating force, and a patented compliant-pin technology to provide good mechanical and electrical performance, says the company. It is IEEE 10GBASE-KR and optical internetworking forum stat eye compliant. Featuring short line cards and switch-module signal paths, the simple 2.15x1.35mm grid on both the backplane and daughtercard is claimed to reduce PCB routing complexity. The connector is backward compatible with the company’s midplane daughtercard receptacles. YK Component Solutions now supplies Sealtron’s EN2997 Y and YE hermetic connectors. The company offers a range of receptacles including: EN2997-005 Class Y and YE, EN2997-006 Class Y & YE and EN2997007 Class Y and YE in shell sizes 8 to 28. The connectors are qualified to the ASD (formerly known as Association Europeene des Constructeurs de Materiel Aerospatial or AECMA) specification. The design uses metal-to metal grounding between receptacles and mating plugs and a passivated stainless steel shell material. There are also gold-plated electrical contacts with solder cup terminations. The connectors are qualified to operate in temperatures up to 260ºC (cyclical) and will withstand an extended range of fluids in an aerospace environment. The distributor also offers solder eyelet style terminations or thermocouple (Type K) pins as commercial equivalents that meet the design requirements of EN2997, however they cannot be marked with the EN part number nor certified to the specification. The distributor provides connectors and contacts for the civil aerospace industry, including MIL-DTL-38999 series I, II, & III in aluminium, steel, and composite shells; MIL-DTL-26500, M83723, EN2997, ESC10, MS26482 and 5015. NYK CompoNeNt SolutioNS N &K Components has designed the CCM03 and CCM04 series of smartcard connectors with a built-in card detection switch for M2M applications. The connectors meet IEC 512 certification and are resistant to shock, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures. They are suitable for asset tracking, automotive e-call and tracking, signage, metering, vending machine, security and remote monitoring applications. Depending on the type, the CCM03 connectors feature an insulated open card detection switch or increased contact forces for good vibration resistance. The connectors in this series provide a card insertion force of up to 3 and 1N for fixed and hinged cover, respectively, with a contact force ranging from 0.25 to 0.5N. The CCM04 connectors have a 10N insertion force and a contact force ranging from 0.4 to 0.7N. Both series are available with standard gold plated contacts or with specific inlay alloy for increased wear and corrosion resistance. They have six or eight contacts with high-temperature thermoplastics and a mechanical life of 10,000 to 50,000 cycles, says the company. The RoHS-compliant connectors are compatible with automatic pick-and-place equipment and lead-free SMT reflow soldering process.
