The company claims that the BZ6A is the smallest power supply for high-density mounting use in a single package. It measures 2.3x2.9x1mm. As mobile devices, including smartphones, increase the number of components and power sources within the circuit, the trend has been towards miniaturisation. The BZ6A integrates a BU9000X series 6MHz high-speed switching power supply LSI and has a wide input voltage range, from 2.3 to 5.5V, making them suitable portable devices using a 5V USB, as well as an output voltage range between 1 and 3.3V, for compatibility. Operation is 6MHz with over 85% efficiency. Another feature is the automatic PWM / PFM mode switching and soft-start circuit and multiple protection circuits. F Micro Devices has released the RFFM6201, a 2.4GHz band, single-chip, Zigbee front end module which has an integrated power amplifier, low noise amplifier, and diversity switch. It delivers 170mA at rated power and +23dBm for HAN (home area networking) or ZigBee Smart Energy applications. (ZigBee Smart Energy is the standard for HAN used by smart grid programmes to boost energy management and efficiency in homes.) The device is pin-for-pin compatible with the company’s RF6555 and offers 5dB higher output power, to increase power output and range without changes in product layout, says the company. The front end module is optimised for smart energy applications, including smart meters, energy usage control, or ‘demand response,’ and HAN devices.
