new products reader offer Common-Mode Chokes for DC Power Lines have maximum DC resistance from 0.006 to 0.015Ω Four Signalling Design Books To Win engineer authors offer insights to signal and power integrity I n this month’s Reader Offer, EPN has four copies of HighSpeed Signalling: Jitter Modeling, Analysis and Budgeting by Dan Oh and Chuck Yuan to offer as prizes to four lucky readers. The book summarises the current status of signal integrity, which is evolving as the speed of digital electronics increases. It has insights for state-of-the-art techniques for achieving the signal and power integrity required in today’s high-performance electronics. The authors describe themselves as joining Rambus in the “black magic era” of signal integrity. When engineers designing PCs and consumer devices were using ad hoc approaches to signal integrity. Then they were borrowing techniques form microwave engineers but these methods focused on passive components (connectors, package and PCBs). The authors recognised that a systematic approach was needed to look holistically at high-speed devices being created to minimise costs for high volume manufacturing, without cutting corners. Dan Oh is a senior principal engineer at Rambus and holds seven patents and 10 patent-pending applications in high-speed link design. Oh also serves on the technical program committee of IEEE EPEPS, and is a former member of the IEC DesignCon Technical Program Committee. Chuck Yuan is an engineering director at Rambus and holds eight patents. He was formerly a senior consulting engineer at Cadence Design Systems. V ishay Intertechnology has released three common-mode chokes that are said to offer high current-handling capability and high stability for DC power lines. The ICM-2824, ICM-3528, and ICM-4743 chokes measure 7x6x4mm, 9x7x5mm, and 12x11x6.3mm, respectively. They have maximum DC resistance from 0.006 to 0.015Ω at rated currents from 8 down to 4A, and common-mode impedance from 300 to 1500Ω at 100MHz. The chokes provide a rated voltage of 80V DC, insulation resistance of 10MΩ, and operate between -25 and +85°C. They are housed in lead-free, SMT packages with treated base terminals and have a paired wire coil for high stability. The chokes are designed to provide noise suppression in a range of power lines, i.e. in LAN, PCs, CD-ROM drives, telephones, and electronic games. The switch is designed without additional internal mechanism, to ensure consistent on and off operation, says the company. The D2HW sub-miniature micro-switch is IP67-rated and measures 13.3x11.2x5.3mm. It is available with straight or angled terminals and a choice of different actuator mechanisms including pin plunger, hinge lever and leaf lever. The switch supports an operating force of 0.75N, voltage ratings of 125V AC at 0.1A or 42V DC at 0.5A, and an operating current of 2A with an insulation resistance of 100MΩ. It supports up to 30 operations per minute and operates between -40 and +85°C. It is RoHS-compliant and lead-free including moulded wire lead modules. www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47286 omron electronic www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47132 50 April 2012 – epn issue n° 04 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=46924 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47286 http://www.epn-online.com/search?search_keyword=47132
