test Corner TRaC Makes £2m Investment in new EMC and safety testing laboratory High-Performance Scope tests fast clock signals up to 800MHz Bandwidth Upgrade Feature on additions to oscilloscopes Family RaC has invested £2m in a new test laboratory in Wimborne, Dorset. The new site expands on two existing sites in the same area. The laboratory brings together all aspects of EMC testing for the aerospace and defence industries, and it expands the offering on commercial EMC and safety testing. Three chambers have been installed dedicated to the military and aerospace products. Two more will serve the commercial market. A sixth chamber has been fitted out for transient testing. Other test capabilities include lighting, high density radiated fields, and environmental stress testing including shock and vibration. Temperature, humidity and salt spray, acoustic noise and hydraulic fatigue testing are also available. An electromagnetic shaker table can apply stresses to loads up to 2 tonnes. “With this investment we have effectively future proofed the site. We serve industries on the cutting edge of innovation, and this investment will enable us to meet their test needs,” commented Mark Heaven, TRaC Global Chief Executive Officer. We can meet the 1 to 10 GHz standard, we can go to 5000V per metre in the high intensity radiated field testing,” he added. The facility is accredited by UKAS to ISO 17025, and it is a Civil Aviation Authority recognised test laboratory its test reports are recognised and accepted by the global civil aviation industry. TRAC 54 T he new 4GHz high-performance oscilloscope from Rohde & Schwarz with its 20 GSa/s sampling rate is ideal for analysing fast signals and steep edges. It can handle different data interfaces up to a data rate of 1.6Gbps and can also be used to test fast clock signals up to a frequency of 800MHz. It offers high sensitivity and measurement accuracy for measurements of typically low-amplitude (< 1 V) signals. Thanks to a low-noise frontend, the full measurement bandwidth of 4GHz is available at even the smallest scaling (1mV/ div). The 10GHz single-core A/D converter provides a dynamic range of ENOB > 7 bit. Another characteristic is the high acquisition and analysis rate of 1 million waveforms per second. The digital trigger system makes it possible to accurately pinpoint narrow glitches (down to 50ps) and their origin. And an adjustable trigger hysteresis allows users to optimise the trigger sensitivity to the signal characteristics. A combination of fast FFT analysis, high dynamic range and a bandwidth of up to 4GHz makes the oscilloscope ideal for frequency domain measurements. When verifying circuit designs and during debugging, even sporadic EMI interferers are reliably detected. The spectra of up to four RF signals can be observed in parallel and phase-coherent. Rohde & SChwARz T ektronix has a series of new models, options and enhancements to its MSO/DPO4000B and MSO/DPO3000. With high-speed buses like USB 2.0 and Ethernet now being implemented in mainstream embedded designs, Tektronix is introducing six new MSO/DPO4000B oscilloscopes with 1GHz performance. It will offer two channel models with 20Mpoint record lengths and two and four channel “lite” versions with 5Mpoint record length. All 1GHz oscilloscopes in the MSO/DPO4000B series include one TPP1000 1GHz passive probe per analogue channel. This general-purpose probe features extremely low 3.9pF capacitive loading for visibility into the high-frequency signal details found in USB 2.0 and Ethernet devices. The addition of new bandwidth upgrade products for the MSO/DPO3000 series oscilloscopes, engineers can purchase the bandwidth they need, and upgrade it (up to 500MHz) when project requirements change. The oscilloscopes are ideal for general purpose debug, power analysis or serial and parallel bus analysis. In addition to bandwidth upgrades, the oscilloscopes offer support for MIL-STD-1553 and FlexRay serial buses popular in the aerospace and automotive industries respectively. Both the DPO3AERO and DPO3FLEX modules enable triggering on packet-level information as well as analytical tools such as digital views of the signals, bus views and packet decoding.
