Atlantic Bakery Expo Set for March

D&W Acquires CM Packaging
D&W Fine Pack LLC announces the acquisition of CM Packaging Group. The acquisition advances the D&W strategy as a national supplier of foodservice containers and other products serving the food processor, foodservice and food packaging markets. Total revenue for D&W now approaches $400 million. The company employs 1,600 and operates from 11 locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Set for March 18-19 at the Atlantic City, NJ Convention Center, the Atlantic Bakery Expo 2012 is all new and many shows wrapped into one. As a comprehensive source for the baking industry, including ingredients, equipment, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers and industry information, the ABE show is expanded to include deli, prepared foods, cheese and salty snacks. This year’s show is action-packed from the opening ceremonies to the closing bell. port, Phil Lempert says 2011 brought higher food prices at unprecedented levels, and more food recalls from unique points of origin. “There is little doubt that in the coming years, we will continue to see food prices rise based on environmental conditions as well as offsetting higher production costs. The costs of fuel, feed, packaging and food safety coupled with a higher demand for export all will factor into the retail price on the shelf. Look for consumers to shave costs by augmenting their recipes by decreasing the amount of the more expensive meats and seafood and adding more non-meat proteins that are filling and less expensive, including adding whole-wheat pasta, tofu, lentils, brown rice and vegetables to recipes,” Lempert writes. On technology, he adds: “Expect shoppers to use their mobile devices to calculate a price per portion cost rather than the unit price of individual products listed on the shelves. Just as the younger generation uses social networking as part of their everyday lives, expect this generation to be the ‘forever frugal consumer’ using more coupons and searching for deals online.”
