Society Bakery turns back the clock by inventing new flavors of old favorites.

Product innovators want to know because they hope to capture lightning in a bottle by figuring out what bakery shoppers want to buy before the competition catches on. Well, if what’s going on right now in Texas is any indication, Society Bakery owner Roshi Muns just might have the answer. At least, she’s figured out what her customers are craving — the old-fashioned comfort of bread pudding in the new fangled form of a whoopie pie. Cruising Kitchens of San Antonio helped Her 9-year-old Dallas bakery is baking up a storm with a slew of innovative whoopie pie flavors: bread pudding, spice, red velvet, peppermint red velvet, pumpkin and pumpkin chocolate chip. “We love bread pudding and wanted to come up with an easy way to eat it on the go — around the same time we were debuting red velvet whoopie pies, so the timing was perfect. The whoopie pie answer was right there,” Muns says with an enthusiastic smile. Society Bakery create the food truck, which Muns affectionately calls “Ms. America.” The truck spends most time at an established kid-friendly food truck park called Boardwalk on Bulverde. It bakes and sells fresh sweet baked goods on Friday nights from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12-3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. On May 8, the food truck made its first on-location trip to a San Antonio neighborhood block party, ushering in a new era for whoopie pies and cupcakes on the go. The food truck marks the “We consider this truck our third location. There is an actual full-size Blodgett convection oven on the truck where we bake cupcakes, whoopie pies, M&M cookies and sugar cookies,” Muns says. “The food truck also has a gorgeous display case that the kids really enjoy — and adults, too — so they can see what they are about to try.” Now, her fun-flavored whoopie pies, cupcakes and cookies are hitting the road in other parts of Texas, as Dallas-based Society Bakery recently launched its first food truck — March 30 in San Antonio.
