New Food Products Zatarain’s introduces frozen meals Kraft adds cauliflower to new mac and cheese item NORTHFIELD, ILL. — Kraft Foods Inc. has introduced Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinner Veggie Pasta. Available in two flavors — original and three cheese — the new pastas include the equivalent of a 1/2 serving (1/4 cup) of cauliflower per cup of product. The company freezedries cauliflower and pulverizes it into a powder, then uses that powder to replace some of the flour in the pasta. The suggested retail price for a 5.5-oz box is $1.49. The varieties include blackened chicken alfredo; red beans and rice with sausage; jambalaya flavored with sausage; dirty rice with beef and pork; blackened ch low chicken with yellow rice; Big Easy rice bowl; shrimp alfredo; shrimp scampi with pasta; jambalaya pasta with chicken and sausage; zesty French Quarter style pasta bake; and sausage and chicken gumbo with rice. All products have a suggested retail price of $2.99 to $3.49. Each variety contains at least 18 grams of whole grains, 3 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein per serving and, like all Bear Naked products, the Bear Naked Nut Cluster Crunch cereals are natural and free of artificial flavors, trans fats, cholesterol, hydrogenated oils and high-fructose corn syrup. The company said the Graham Snackers have 15.05 grams of whole grain per serving. AdvancePierre Foods plans to sell the new product in food service settings, including schools, sports venues and hospitals, and is targeting the convenience, hand-held market segment. In addition to its whole grain content, the Graham Snackers have 300 calories per serving of which 160 calories are from fat.
