The transaction includes all of the business for Dorgel Ltd. & Elistan Foods, including its entire product portfolio, manufacturing operations, research and development capabilities. Dorgel & Elistan sells an expansive line of Dorgelbranded frozen desserts to retailers across Canada, and has been innovating for more than 20 years. “We’re thrilled about the acquisition,” said Aldo Belvedere, president, Canada Division, Rich Products Corp. “It marks an important entry for Rich’s into the branded retail marketplace in Canada. In addition, the frozen dessert manufacturing capability in Canada positions us to meet the growing demand for ice cream and frozen desserts in this important market.” As part of the transaction, owner Nick Lucchese will join Rich’s as vice-president of business development, and Eric Cannataro, co-owner, will join Rich’s as plant manager. FBN Michigan retailer acquires dairy production capacity GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. — The Meijer retail chain has acquired the dairy processing assets of Bareman’s Dairy in Holland, Mich. Renamed the Purple Cow Creamery, Meijer plans to process white and chocolate milk in gallon and halfgallon sizes once facility renovations are complete. “This is an exciting day for our company,” said Hank Meijer, co-chairman and chief executive officer. “As Meijer continues to grow, it’s crucial we invest in the operations that will help us keep our promise of higher standards and lower prices to our customers. Expanding into dairy operations will do just that.” Meijer said the company will invest $8 million to expand the Bareman facility.
