ConAgra Mills expands Ancient Grains portfolio

Since its introduction in 2007,
the ConAgra Mills Ancient
Grains line of amaranth, quinoa, sorghum, millet and teff
— as well as custom multigrain
and gluten-free blends — has
grown. Now the Omaha-based
company is expanding the line
by adding buckwheat, spelt
and a variety of puffed and

toasted grains for whole grain,
multigrain, gluten-free and artisan foods.
“Consumer research shows
us that Americans are excited
about these heritage grains
for a variety of reasons,
including adding culinary
adventure to mainstream favorites,” said Joni Huffman,

director of business development for ConAgra Mills.
“Whether it’s gluten-free, multigrain or organic, our flours,
grains and custom blends offer a diverse palette for food
companies.”
The expanded product line
is available in whole grain
flours, whole seeds, toasted

grains, puffed grains and custom multigrain blends in traditional, gluten-free and organic
options. The grains also have
a range of important nutrients,
including protein, fiber, unsaturated fats, vitamins, minerals
and antioxidants.

New base seasonings offer
South American flavor profiles
Fuchs North America,
Baltimore, has introduced
a line of South Americaninspired seasoning and flavor
concepts to develop unique
custom product offerings
for food service customers,
as well as processed food
products for the grocery and
retail food segments. Led by
Howard Cantor, corporate
research chef, six seasoning
bases are among the initial
lineup of flavor concepts:
Aji Amarillo — a fruity, flavorful chili ideal for meat rubs;
Chimichurri — a classic
sauce to accompany fireroasted meats, featuring a
citrus flavor accentuated by
parsley and seasonings;
Gaucho Rub — a meat
rub melding flavors from
chili peppers, oregano,
pepper flakes and sea salt,
among others;

Nutraflora prebiotic
fiber approved by
Health Canada

Guasacaca — a spicy
avocado salsa from Brazil;
Hogao — a Colombian
criollo sauce for meats with flavors of onions, tomatoes, garlic
and cumin, among others; and
Tempero Baiano — a dry
seasoning mix well-suited for
meats, fish, vegetables and
soups.

Ingredion Inc., Westchester,
Ill., recently announced Health
Canada approved Nutraflora
prebiotic fiber as a dietary fiber
source. This allows for the
prebiotic fiber, a short-chain
fructooligosaccharide (scFOS)
to be declared as a fiber source
in food products as permitted
by the Canadian Food and Drug
Regulations.
The company, via its GTC
Nutrition business and its predecessors, has been marketing
Nutraflora prebiotic fiber as an
ingredient solution that is uniquely capable of helping to improve
calcium absorption, digestive and
immune health, in North America
for more than 25 years.
The prebiotic fiber also
delivers numerous formulation advantages such as flavor
