INGREDIENTMARKETTRENDS In The Spotlight At A Glance I.G.C. forecasts world wheat stocks at new record in 2016-17 he International Grains Council on April 28 forecast 2016-17 world wheat ending stocks at a record 218 million tonnes, up 7 million tonnes from its April 1 projection at 211 million tonnes and up 3 million tonnes from the forecast for 2015-16 at 215 million tonnes, the current record year-ending inventory. The forecast for record ending stocks in the upcoming marketing year was made despite a drop in projected world wheat production in 2016-17 compared with the record outturn of 2015-16. The I.G.C. projected world wheat production in 2016-17 at 717 million tonnes, down 17 million tonnes T Domestic sugar prices cents per lb 30 28 from 734 million tonnes in 2015-16. The 2016-17 production projection compared with 729 million tonnes in 2014-15 and would be equal to the global wheat outturn in 2013-14. The I.G.C. commented, "With another season of large supplies anticipated and with consumption potentially showing a small decline, global carryover stocks are projected to expand again at the end of 2016-17. While drawdowns from relatively high levels are expected in a number of countries, falls are seen being offset by a further increase in China." The I.G.C. projected China's 2016-17 wheat ending stocks at a 17-year high of 89.9 million tonnes, which would account for 41% of total world ending stocks projected for the year. The I.G.C. projected 2016-17 world wheat consumption at 715 million tonnes, down 1 million tonnes from its previous projection and down 4 million tonnes from a record 719 million tonnes in 2015-16. The I.G.C. forecast 2016-17 world trade in wheat at 153 million tonnes, unchanged from the April 1 projection, down 1 million tonnes from the estimate for the current year and the same as in 2014-15.
